Job Description

 

The Analyst will be a key member of the CHAI Zimbabwe Access Programs team and is expected to provide analytical rigor for all access work related to drugs access solutions for HIV and TB as well as mHealth solutions. In particular, the Analyst will drive the analytical and program aspects related to CHAI Zimbabwe’s access work namely: procurement and tendering analyses, the uptake of new formulations, clinical mentoring, electronic data management and results reporting systems for EID testing and pediatric patients.

The position requires a highly motivated individual with outstanding academic credentials and a strong analytical record. The Analyst, Access to Medicines is required to work with government officials and implementing partners, and must have excellent communication and negotiation skills and a high degree of self-confidence. S/he must be able to function independently and have a strong commitment to excellence. S/he should also exhibit a number of important personal qualities: resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, independence, energy, and work ethic.

The Analyst will report to the Manager, HIV Access to Medicines and Laboratory Systems –

Responsibilities:

• Work with Ministry of Health departments and partners to accelerate introduction and uptake of new ARV products (including support dissemination of new guidelines, development of roll-out plans, tracking uptake and cost benefit analysis);
• Support data management systems, promote data use and strengthen data feedback mechanisms for HIV/TB programs (including EID and pediatric patient tracking);
• Support training and roll-out of mechanisms for expedited results reporting systems of laboratory results;
• Work with the various Ministry of Health departments, the CHAI country and global teams to adapt and/or develop strategic and implementation plans as required;
• Conduct program and financial gap analysis to inform resource needs for introduction of new products including MOH/GF proposal development, etc.
• Assess and facilitate access to CHAI ceiling prices by government and partners in the country and tendering and procurement efforts of in-country partners;
• Conduct procurement/export, clearing and distribution of medicines or related products procured by CHAI;
• Actively participate in national HIV commodity quantification processes with MOHCC;
• Monitor supply chain and stock status across various commodities and support MOHCC as required to minimize stock-outs;
• Disseminate information from CHAI and other sources on ART, supply dynamics and access-to-medicines issues;
• Work with the Ministry of Health and partners to assess opportunities for optimization of national treatment guidelines; assist with budget and scenario analysis;
• Support program design activities for new programs and development of evaluation studies to introduce new diagnostic equipment or drugs as they becomes available;
• Documentation of case studies and best practices as part of knowledge management and sharing within the access to medicines community in CHAI and beyond;
• Any other duties as assigned by the Program Manager

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, plus a minimum 1 year private sector work experience
• Exceptional analytical (qualitative and quantitative), presentation and communication (written and verbal) skills
• Entrepreneurial mindset, including ability to work independently, self-motivate, and propose and implement new initiatives
• Ability to think strategically, handle ambiguity, and problem solve in a fast-paced, limited-structure, multicultural environment
• Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities
• Ability to absorb and synthesize a broad range of information, especially clinical and scientific information
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Willingness to travel frequently and at short notice

Advantages:

• Proficiency in using statistical packages like MS Excel, MS Access, Epi Info, STATA or SAS
• Experience working in management consulting, investment banking, or similar fast-paced, output-oriented environments
• Experience living or working abroad, particularly in developing countries
• Familiarity with global health issues, particularly HIV, TB and Malaria
• Familiarity with health systems in developing countries
• Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device industry
• Experience with supply chain, manufacturing, and/or procurement functions
