Call for Consultants – Egypt Value Added Solutions Project (EVAS) at Abt Associates 95 views1 applications


Abt Associates, a major American research, technical assistance, and international development company, seeks highly qualified technical specialists in the fields below for the anticipated USAID-funded Value Added Solutions Project. The project will build on USAID’s investments in assisting Egypt’s small farmers to export horticulture produce that meets international standards. The new activity will create additional linkages to provide high quality produce to local grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, and food processors in Egypt. The activity’s end goal is to improve Egypt’s food security through improved income for farmers as well as access to healthy and nutritious food for Egyptians.

Minimum qualifications

  • University degree;
  • USAID/donor Experience;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic;
  • Minimum of six years of professional experience in one or more of the technical areas outlined below;

Value Chain Productivity Specialist – Demonstrated technical experience and leadership qualifications in improving the overall performance and productivity of select high value horticulture crops, utilizing a demand-driven, private sector-led approach.

Post-Harvest Specialist– demonstrated experience in production, post-harvest handling, processing, financing, storage, transport, packaging relative to the key national agriculture products.

Agriculture Enterprise Marketing – demonstrated experience in commercial operations and marketing, product R&D, market R&D, agribusiness and business planning, especially in the formal national agriculture product markets, but including exports.

Access to Finance Specialist – demonstrated experience in working with financial institutions (banks and MFIs) to develop financial products for agriculture value chains; creating favorable policy and enabling environments for investment in agriculture production, processing, transport and storage.

Institutional Development – demonstrated experience in assessing organizational capacity using standard tools and analyses, as well as designing and delivering tailored capacity-building programs for governmental, non-governmental and private sector agencies, organizations, businesses and associations.

Nutrition through Agriculture – demonstrated experience in delivering improved nutritional outcomes through agriculture value chains, designing nutrition-sensitive interventions, behavior change communications, analytical methodologies for evaluating nutritional outcomes, and creating favorable policies supporting improved nutrition.

Gender in Agriculture – demonstrated experience in mainstreaming gender in development programs, especially related to agriculture development, household livelihoods and nutrition, and including analytical methodologies for evaluating gender outcomes at the household and institutional levels.

Positions associated with the above technical sectors are contingent upon project award.
