Chemonics seeks a chief of party for the anticipated five year USAID/Mali Peace and Stabilization project, which will build on the progress of the USAID/Mali Peace Initiative. The project is expected to support further transition out of the emergency assistance phase into more longer term, scalable, and sustainable community-driven peacebuilding, stabilization, and recovery activities in conflict-affected areas and areas at risk of conflict. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide overall project leadership, management, and technical direction, ensuring all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate
  • Direct implementation of the project’s strategic long-term vision
  • Oversee work planning, performance management, and strategic communications
  • Serve as the project’s primary liaison with USAID, international and regional partners, and host-country government officials
  • Serve as the project’s primary liaison with the Chemonics Washington, D.C., office in technical and managerial matters
  • Supervise project technical and administrative staff, including the deputy chief of party and technical leads, ensuring staff are successfully managing project activities and operations
  • Work with government counterparts in defining project activities and targets and ensure close collaboration
  • Ensure compliance with USAID regulations and Chemonics policies and systems
  • Participate in regular project evaluations to assess progress and recommend solutions
  • Represent the project at periodic meetings with stakeholders to report on planned activities and actions, including implementation status

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in management, international development, conflict/peacebuilding, or other relevant field
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience in development, with seven years of experience in complex, high-speed, challenging field operations in developing countries; experience in Mali preferred
  • Minimum five years of experience as chief of party, managing complex activities that involve coordination with multiple project stakeholders across a range of implementation areas
  • Experience working on a program with a peacebuilding and recovery component highly desirable; knowledge and expertise in best practices for conflict mitigation, governance, and increasing citizen participation required
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership in designing, managing, implementing, and monitoring and evaluating similar donor-supported projects, with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision, and budgeting; experience preferred in managing complex activities involving coordination with multiple project partner institutions
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills to fulfill the project’s diverse technical and managerial requirements and effectively coordinate with a range of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and lead multidisciplinary teams
  • Financial management experience, including budgeting, accounting tracking and reporting, and procurement
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in written and oral English and French required
