role PURPOSE

Support the Communication and Advocacy department with logistics and coordination of various activities at national and PU level.

S/he will be responsible with media (social media and traditional media) monitoring and archiving, coordination with PUs on dissemination of IEC materials and assisting national and field level implementation of the advocacy activities having close collaboration with various advocacy-based external networks and stakeholders.

Dimensions of the Role

  • Media: Support media engagement and monitoring
  • Branding and Visibility: Works with designer at CO to support designing work for projects and PUs
  • Coordination with CO and PUs: Work closely with communication focals at PU level to support with communication activities
  • Advocacy: Assist the delivery of advocacy strategies in line with program and humanitarian context objectives
  • Youth coordination: Assist the coordination of youth participation on various platforms
  • Logistics: Assist with coordination of admin support and logistics

Accountabilities

  • Assist the development of the social media calendar and monitoring results both on both online and mainstream media
  • Assist with dissemination of produced materials to staff at PU and CO
  • Filing of Plan International media coverage reports and Newspaper cuttings
  • Storing and maintenance of communications materials such as publications, banners, DVDs etc,
  • Update information points with updated content
  • Support youth engagements in various platforms including IDG and Girls Taker Over
  • Assist the implementation  of various advocacy activities at CO and PU level
  • Assist with preparations and coordination of key events and activities at CO and PU level
  • Support with department admin and logistical work
  • Preparing requests for stationeries and other supporting equipment in the department

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

Essential

  • University Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications,  Social Sciences, Development Studies or related discipline
  • At least 1 year of practical work experience/internship in Communications and Advocacy field
  • Ability to work in teams, communicate and coordinate with government departments and other development agencies at district level
  • Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and implications to community development, especially child marriage
  • Strong project management skills
  • Knowledge of Gender and Child rights issues
  • Strong team-building and motivational skills
  • Strong negotiating, facilitating and influencing skills
  • Strong community facilitation skills
  • Cultural sensitivity  i.e. building and working effectively within a diverse working environment

Plan International is an international organisation or development which works in 51 countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia to promote the safeguarding of children.It is a nonprofit organisation and is one of the world's largest organisations based on children, it works in 58,000 communities with the help of volunteers to improve how 56 million children live. The charity also has 21 national organisations who have been given the responsibility to oversee the raising of funds and awareness in their individual countries.

The NGO focuses on child participation, education, economic security, emergencies, health, protection, sexual health (including HIV), and water and sanitation. Plan International also sponsors the Because I Am a Girl campaign, which has published many stories focusing on the struggle of young women in the developing world.

Plan International was founded during the Spanish Civil War by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and aid worker Eric Muggeridge. When they witnessed the conflict change the lives of children, they founded ‘Foster Parents Plan for Children in Spain’, which would later change its name to Plan International. Set up in 1937, the organisation provided food, shelter and clothing to children whose lives had been destroyed by the war.
