Columba Leadership is a nonprofit organisation that activates youth enterprise and employment by helping young people transcend their personal circumstances and offers meaningful social impact to all investors.

Columba Leadership seeks to appoint a Communications Officer, based in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities:

Internal and External Communications

  • Support all internal and external communications in close consultation with the relevant leaders, including the CEO, Head of Investor Relations and HR Manager
  • Write various communications, including through content based on interviews, briefings, research and observations / insights
  • Produce the annual review and investor event presentations
  • Internal and external newsletters
  • Visual communications, especially including short videos
  • Conceptualise, writing and designing posters (internal) and advertisements (external)
  • Manage promotional / informative / information sharing events (internal and external)

Investor Relations

  • Scheduling investor engagements, including for renewal proposals
  • Preparing ‘standard’ marketing collateral for key stakeholder groups, and assisting with tailoring these for specific target audiences
  • Occasional investor presentation and debriefs
  • Arrange new investor events e.g. Breakfast meetings
  • Edit investor reports
  • Prepare basic proposal components with associated presentations using best in class tools; 30 second, 10, 20 & 40 minute pitches
  • Edit proposals (including advising on the look-and-feel)

Media relations

  • Manage relationship with media advisors e.g. TBWA
  • Engage with media (including Sunday Times, Carte Blanche, etc.)
  • Prepare media releases

Website

  • Work with the relevant stakeholder groups and responsible line managers / teams, keeping the website content topical and up-to-date
  • Track and meaningfully respond to analytics relating to the effectiveness of the website

Digital marketing

  • Develop innovative strategies for Facebook (and other) engagement of young people
  • Social Media community management, especially Facebook engagement
  • Considering and using, as appropriate, other available channels (e.g., WhatsApp)

External recognition

  • Discover and submit awards proposals
  • Tracking strategic networking opportunities and facilitating relevant engagements

Developing marketing and communications collateral

  • Accumulate and safekeep all important reference materials, testimonials and the like
  • Keep up to date with latest research in youth leadership, employment, etc.
  • Document employment, enterprise case studies
  • Discovery of PR assets in schools and in exit interviews and trapping these
  • Discovery of key local leadership and international players in youth leadership, employment
  • Preparation of thought leadership pieces
  • Draft learning briefs
  • Build a database of powerful visual communications (photographs) describing Columba Leadership, including taking photographs and videography

Requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric) with a Bachelor’s Pass
  • A tertiary qualification in Communications will be a distinct advantage
  • At least two years of work experience in communications, with specific NGO experience being a distinct advantage
