Southern African AIDS Trust (SAT) is an innovative organisation with a regional footprint contributing to improved systems for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of girls and women in eastern and southern Africa. It is driven by gender equality, community ownership and the agency and aspiration of girls, adolescents and young people. SAT works with a network of over 100 communities, NGOs, CBOs and activists working for universal SRHR in equitable and inclusive systems for health.

SAT seeks to appoint a Country Director to be based in Zambia.

Start date: 1 November 2017

The Country Director is the programme leader and public face of SAT Zambia and is responsible for leading and delivering change in sexual and reproductive health and rights and in gender equality for girls, adolescents and young women in targeted ways in Zambia. In addition she/he will contribute to similar change at a regional level across SAT

The Country Director participates in developing strategy in collaboration with the SAT Executive Director, the SAT Board, Country Advisory Committee and then in delivering it. She/he leads country delivery, and oversees the management of the SAT office.  Networking and collaborating with various components of government, with other NGOs and with civil society, including women’s organisations and with cooperating partners is an essential part of delivering change. The position includes country resource mobilisation in support of the country strategy and enhancing the image and influence of SAT in country to support change. The Country Director is also responsible for all reporting from country partner organisations and from the country programme.

Requirements:

  • At least a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health or a relevant discipline
  • Training in strategic leadership and management
  • A minimum of eight years’ working experience in public health, SRHR, or HIV at a senior management level
  • Demonstrable capacity to learn and manage complex social change, and organisational continuing systems improvement with an emphasis on risk management and quality assurance
  • Experience in reputation building, internal and external relations and partnership building with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable track record in resource mobilisation, strategic communications, and performance management
  • A well-documented ability to lead, manage and work collaboratively in a team environment, contribute to and encourage a culture of team work and service delivery and take shared responsibility for achieving results
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Advocacy, Influencing and Negotiation Skills
  • A high standard of written and spoken English language and ability to write clear and concise business communication including reports
  • Representational skills including ability to speak publicly, negotiation and diplomatic competencies
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Zambia and periodic international travel
