MAJOR OBJECTIVE OF THE POST:
To Ensure the well functioning of MDM Maiduguri office and guest house: General maintenance, orderliness, and cleanliness in the MDM Office and Guest House to ensure that facilities and equipment in the organization are in good shape at all times for human utilization. The staff can also be requested to provide support to the mobile clinics operated by MdM in Maiduguri as required.
General Objectives
- Inspection on facilities in the organization on a regular basis in order to avoid casualties that may arise from sudden malfunctioning of facilities
- Providing training to some assistants in the organization by imparting his/her skills and expertise on them(specially security guards), as well as overseeing their progress on the job
- He/she is mandated to make him or herself available at all times and to respond promptly to emergencies that may arise from office equipment and appliances malfunctioning.
- Responsible for the functioning of office/ guest house generator including but not limited to refuelling, routine checks, regular & break down maintenance etc. Start the motor / Switch off the generator. Keep inventory of generator spare parts. Preparing Generator Fuel Consumption Reports
Objective 1. Specific Activities
- Keep the buildings in good working order and cleanness always.
- Replace Light Bulbs, and perform minor electrical issues/repairs
- Repair plumbing appliances & in case of heavy plumbing needs, to provide assistance to contractors
- To ensure the hygiene and sanitation system of the buildings is functioning and kept well
- To ensure the regular water supply for the office compound and the guest house
- To clean the water tanks (the ground the upper reservoirs)
- Help with the treatment of waste (incineration, etc.)
- To ensure the availability of the office and the GH drinking water in the water-dispensers
- Manage the garden in well-organized shape and to ensure the regular watering of the trees with the support of the security guards
- To clean the compound on regular basis
- Carpentry works in fixing furniture, doors in the organization & changes the locks if they are bad.
- Remove stains and paint building when necessary.
- Troubleshoot general problems: Repair and replace general hardware.
- Other appropriate tasks as requested by the line manager
- Sees to it that trash and garbage waste are constantly taken out regularly
Objective 2. Reporting
- Inform the logistician for any problem concerning the building
- To attend to, where necessary, personnel visiting the site such as contractors, repair men, etc
- Keeping accurate records of each job with costs
Objective 3: Others
Logistics:
Any other task might be asked by the line manager /National Logistics Manager according to the department workload.
MDM specific
- Actively participate in the implementation of Performance Management. Including objective setting, performance review, upward feedback and personal development plans.
- Ensure implementation of MDM’s operational policies, procedures and guidelines, with support from Logistics, technical advisors and programme service staff as needed.
- Support setting up and maintenance of all asset management responsibilities in field offices for all humanitarian and development programmes, providing capacity building support as necessary.
- Be a member of MDM team; participating in appropriate staff meetings, planning sessions and on-going liaising as needed.
Required qualities and behavior
- Good knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting works and moving is mandatory
- Able to read & write, can keep limited financial records, possession of a Diploma is an asset
- At least 2 years of experience in similar position
- Security consciousness and highly observant, adherent to security guideline
- Healthy and Physical capability of moving equipment
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to solve problems
- Ability to follow instructions
- Have good human relation, interacting with people and working cohesively with them and a positive attitude to work
- Being self-reliant responsible; Discreet and flexible
- Good time management and organization
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work both independents and as an effective team member
- Ability to think and communicate clearly with others
- Fluent in –English, Hausa with reasonable understanding of Kanuri
