Gender DynamiX (GDX) is a human rights organisation focusing our advocacy on transgender, transsexual and gender non-conforming people’s rights and access to services. Gender DynamiX provides information about transgender, transsexual and gender non-confirming identities and seeks to promote awareness and acceptance by means of educating and empowering people from diverse communities, including: government departments, service providers such as medical professionals, teachers, employers, police, journalists and universities. Gender DynamiX also reach out to parents, children, co-workers and people who journey alongside trans* people. Gender DynamiX seeks to appoint a Finance Officer, based in Cape Town.
This is a full time position –initial nine months’ contract, with the potential of renewal for a further 12 months based on the availability of funding.
The Finance Officer will report to the Finance manager of GDX, and will have overall responsibility for providing finance related administrative support to the finance manager and programme staff
Responsibilities:
- Process payments and correctly recording entries in compliance with GDX policies and procedures on PASTEL
- Ensure payment requests are supported by all the required documents, accurately stated/costed and properly authorized
- Maintain cheque books, cheque lists and petty cash
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
- Ensure reports – monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports- are generated timeously for planning
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Public administration, Business Administration or relevant degree
- Knowledge of the PASTEL system
- Relevant experience in the finance field will be considered in place of formal education qualifications
- Computer literacy, including Pastel, MS Excel
- Minimum three years’ work experience preferably in an NGO setting and track record of finance and administration
- Demonstrate integrity by modelling the GDX values
- Knowledge and understanding of issues of human rights, social justice, with a passion for community development
- Ability to work alone, take initiative, and manage diverse teams with a transparent, accountable and consultative style
- Ability and skill to work in a multi identity environment with sensitivity for and acceptance of diverse gender identities and expressions
- Must be self-motivated, energetic and highly organised
