Gender DynamiX (GDX) is a human rights organisation promoting freedom of expression of gender identity, focusing in transgender, transsexual and gender non-conforming identities Founded in 2005, GDX is the first organisation within Africa that specifically advocates for transgender individuals.

Gender DynamiX seeks to appoint an Finance Manager, based in Cape Town.

This is a full time position – initial 12 months contract, with the potential of renewal for a further one year based on the availability of funding.

The finance Manager will report to the Executive Director and the Treasurer of GDX, and will have overall responsibility for managing all financial aspects of Gender DynamiX.

Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain the highest level of honesty and professionalism when dealing with staff, funders, project participants, and partner organisations
  • Ensure reports – monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual financial reports – are generated timeously
  • Processing payments and correctly recording entries in compliance with Gender DynamiX policies and procedures in PASTEL
  • Ensure that all payment requests are supported by all the required documents, accurately stated/costed and properly authorised
  • Ensure that all payments are promptly remitted, received, processed and filed in a n accessible manner
  • Maintain payroll system and process staff salaries monthly
  • Payment and submission of all statutory returns
  • Register/ deregister staff with the Department of Labour for UIF as when needed
  • Maintain and update a Register of Fixed Assets
  • Maintain sound relations with our banking partner/s and deal with all queries related to banking
  • Manage all forex payments, requests and transfers
  • Deliver funding reports
  • Manage all financial risk and develop early warning systems
  • Manage and supervise all procurement, ensuring alignment with policies and donor contracts
  • Monitor project expenditure and implement corrective action where such expenditure exceeds or is not consistent with agreed budgets and donor requirements
  • Request the contractual payments from sources of funding timeously
  • Establish, implement, educate staff and project coordinators about and manage effective financial systems and controls to ensure sound management of Gender Dynamix funds
  • Ensure that project managers are provided with the tools they need to manage their budgets
    • Sign off on ad hoc project expenditure within agreed budgets
    • Oversee financial reconciliations of project coordinators, staff and affiliates
    • Ensure project coordinators have accounts of monthly expenditure
  • Manage and supervise the work of the Finance assistant ensuring that all financial administrative tasks are completed accurately and timeously,
  • Preparation of financial reports for all donors as required by them and within the contractual timeframes and in accordance to donor contracts
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliations;
  • Ensuring that all documents are electronically and physically filed and available for internal and external audits;
  • Correct and rectify any qualifications made by auditors;
  • Preparation of financial reports for all donors as required by them and within the contractual timeframes and in accordance to donor contracts;
  • Develop annual programme and organisational budgets, overseeing and supervising budget plans of projects with the director

  Responsibilities:

  • A Bachelor of Commerce/ Accounting degree or similar field
  • Five years’ experience of financial management in the NGO sector
  • Proven track record of managing multiple donor accounts successfully
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel in particular, internet, e-mail and other tools of electronic communication and research
  • Demonstrated competence in interacting and negotiating at a senior level

Gender DynamiX grew from a one ‘person’s-show’ to a grassroots organisation and progressed to an institutionalised NGO which is leading with example. Not only did GDX play a mentorship role in the Eastern and Southern African emerging trans movement. Since 2005 GDX managed to witness many highlights in a South African trans* emergence.
