Learn to Earn (LtE) is a Christian skills development organisation which seeks to develop people, especially unemployed people, socially, economically, emotionally and spiritually.

LtE seeks to appoint a Graphic Design Trainer, based in Cape Town.

This is a full-time permanent position.

Working hours: 08h00 to 16h30, Monday to Thursday and 08h00 to 15h30 on a Friday, these hours and location are subject to change at the Director’s discretion.

Teatime – 10H30 to 11H00 and Lunchtime – 13H00 to 13H30 daily.

Responsibilities:

  • To participate in weekly staff devotions and prayer meetings, the staff language programme “Word-a-day”, and the weekly services
  • To participate in the employer’s Annual Staff Retreat. We go away for a weekend
  • To participate in the employer’s Annual Report Back Meeting which is held on a Saturday
  • To be co-responsible for the continued development of the employer
  • To endorse and promote the employer’s Statement of Faith, Mission Statement and Statement of Principles
  • Staff development in the field of focus will be offered from time to time. To enrol in a systematic theological educational programme would be encouraged. The possibility exists that as a staff we may do an in-house course on the theological basis for holistic ministry
  • To promote the employer and obtain financial support therefore
  • Outside of the employees above responsibilities the employee will be expected to do things that fall outside of the ambit of their job description, such as sweeping, cleaning, covering for and helping other staff. This is a team ministry

Requirements:

  • Passionate about developing the unemployed and eradicating the legacies of injustice
  • A proven track record in education, social development and/or worked in under deserved contexts (experience in Adult Education essential)
  • At least five years of experience in Design, Art, Media or related fields
  • A relevant Training Qualification (Advantageous)
  • Advanced Computer Skills and Experience in i.e.: Adobe CS Suite; Microsoft Office Suite; Salesforce and other Industry Related Technology
  • Report writing skills and well-developed communication skills in English (while knowledge of isiXhosa/ Afrikaans would be beneficial)
  • Ability to work inter-culturally and work within diverse cross-cultural contexts
  • Member/regular attendance of local evangelical church
  • Ability to work under pressure and make things happen (self-motivated)
  • Creative Thinker while also being process orientated

Our skills development and training centres are based in vibrant Khayelitsha and the seaside town of Hermanus. Here, we endeavour to eradicate unemployment and other legacies of injustice in South Africa. Since 1989 we have trained more than 13 000 unemployed people with market-related skills.We have seen over 80% of our graduates become economically active, with up to 11% starting their own businesses. Our students have the option of receiving tuition in Sewing, Sewing Production Line, Graphic Design, Woodwork, Technical Skills, Cater Care, Call Centre, Bake for Profit, Home Management, Point of Sale, Office Administration, as well as Basic Computers and an 8-week long Business Skills course. Our newest training initiative is the Ground UP Academy whose aim is to train and equip unemployed people in becoming entry level Baristas. All of our courses also include a life skills aspect.
