UNHabitat’s work on Safer Cities Programme has continued to develop the Global Network on Safer Cities (GNSC) as a platform for local and national governments as well as non state actors to develop and adopt policies, plans and strategies that strengthen crime and violence prevention and enhance urban safety.

This is reflected in the activities of several Partnerled Technical Working Groups on Safer Cities and the regional forums for urban safety supporting the development of UN systemwide Guidelines on Safer Cities from various thematic and regional perspectives.

UNHabitat’s work on Safer Cities Programme approach the following key issues :

Responsibilities for the Safer Cities Programme Internship

  • Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.

  • Desk research (on published documents, internal reports and the internet) on specific issues related to urban safety, design, planning and management of streets and public spaces.
