Communications Specialist 

Communications Specialist Job Responsibilities

  • In close collaboration with the Communications team, develop compelling visualizations that engage target audiences through strong design, clear messages and catchy narratives.
  • Handling of all digital design needs of AGRA’s communications, ensuring timely delivery of compelling visual design solutions fully consistent with AGRA’s branding, under tight deadlines for external and internal use and for print and digital products.
  • Manage the organization’s online presence by maintaining websites, e-newsletters, blogs, social networks and intranet and in ways that drive visibility and engagement. This would include working with the communications team and consultants / agencies to design and develop innovative graphics and content, sound, videos and games and improve the user experience, aesthetics and information architecture of existing and new AGRA online assets.
  • Manage Search Engine Optimization (SEO) implementation and monitoring and constantly work towards improving site performance in terms of key metric & qualitative goals.
  • Create static and animated info graphics for the AGRA’s website, social media, high-level presentations and publications. Interactive data presentations: Identify and implement solutions for visually compelling dynamic demonstrations of the organization’s work.
  • Lead and participate in strategy meetings to discuss and deliver content projects, e.g. digital concepts, campaigns, engagement pushes, communications tactical briefs, media (including electronically published products) and design options, keeping to predetermined technical specifications, costs, schedules/deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and support throughout the project production process; Coordinate and follow-up with contractors and other relevant parties and ensure that project in on schedule.

Competencies:

  • The successful candidate should demonstrate an ability to work in a highly collaborative and multi-cultural team environment and show a willingness to learn and grow. S/he should have a proven record in online content development and management, website administration through different content management system, social media management and online marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of standard industry production, multimedia processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of typography, layout, photography and color theory as deployed in digital projects and meeting and exceeding laid out objectives.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given.

Qualifications for the Communications Specialist Job

  • The candidate must have an appropriate undergraduate Degree especially in Information Technology, Communications and Design.
  • Relevant advanced academic and professional qualifications in the above fields will be a definite advantage.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience is required, three of which should be in the management of content and digital strategy for a national, regional or global organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in online content development and engagements (including knowledge of current web standards) and motion graphics is necessary. This should include site development process, architecture, coding and navigation protocols and a variety of software used in online production
  • Experience in web systems administration and CMS frameworks (Expression Engine, Drupal, and WordPress experience preferred); Familiarity with HTML, CSS and PHP
  • Ability to compile, analyze and maintain website statistics and other technology metrics (Google Analytics experience preferred).
  • Experience in social media and social networking management and knowledge of blast email strategies and online campaign implementation, as well as familiarity with online campaigning tools such as CampaignMonitor, MailChimp and Communicator Corp
  • Deep knowledge of online trends and best practices and demonstrated ability to plan own work and manage priorities and deadlines

Legal Officer

Reference Legal 01/2017

Reporting to the General Counsel & Corporation Secretary, the Senior Legal Officer will be responsible for the management of AGRA’s risk and compliance and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Duties for the Legal Officer NGO Job

  • Provide structuring advice in relation to AGRA’s five-year strategy in light of legal and regulatory requirements prevailing in the countries AGRA operates in within Sub-Sahara Africa.
  • Implement and manage AGRA country registrations and provide legal advice in relation to country governance and operational documents.
  • Provide legal, compliance and tax advice on AGRA’s tax exempt status in the US federal and Washington State requirements.
  • Develop and implement an annual legal and regulatory compliance plan for all AGRA countries.
  • Continuously analyze in-country and cross border regulatory issues affecting AGRA and communicate effectively with internal key stakeholders and lead development of strategies and plans to mitigate any arising risks.
  • Develop the annual risk work plan that reflects the institution’s highest risks to be monitored as determined by conducting a mandatory annual risk assessment using an enterprise wide approach and ensure an effective monitoring system is in place.
  • Develop a clear annual grants compliance plan and monitor AGRA’s compliance obligations with respect to donor requirements – including IP reporting, and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of such requirements to the greatest extent possible with AGRA’s policies and best practices.
  • Support the General Counsel in the negotiation and structuring of partnerships between AGRA and key relations including host governments, sponsoring government ministries and in-country partners.
  • Continuously educate key stakeholders at AGRA on key tax regulatory, and compliance requirements for implementation.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and coordinate the risk and compliance function.

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree and post graduate diploma in law/legal practice certificate.
  • A master’s degree in law or related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience providing legal counsel at cross border law firm or international organization.
  • Experience in handling complex legal issues.
  • Experience of operating successfully in an international and regulatory challenging environment.
  • An understanding of risk and compliance in the context of development organizations operating in Africa.
  • Experience of making risk-based decisions in a complex operating environment with multiple competing demands.

Procurement Officer

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, the Procurement Officer will be responsible for the management of AGRA’s administrative aspects of the procurement function and in ensuring procurement best practices are followed. This position is nationally recruited and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Procurement Officer NGO Job Responsibilities

  • Review procurement requests and initiate procurement procedures for office project equipment, supplies and services in a transparent and cost-effective manner.
  • Receive and safeguard applications to pre-qualify, expressions of interests, proposals and quotations.
  • For prequalified suppliers, forward the results of the evaluation committees to the Procurement Committee for adjudication and approval through an agenda.
  • Obtain quotes and compile comparable prices to facilitate the determination of future purchases.
    Provide oversight and guidance in technical and financial evaluations.
  • Enforce the procurement and contracting process and makes a follow up on what’s due.
  • Reconcile bid opening report against actual applications received.
  • Prepare and issue/send regret letters/emails.
  • Assist the Head of Procurement in sensitizing staff on regular basis on the procurement process through regular updates and staff trainings.
  • Maintain tender/contract register.
  • Ensure that contracts being submitted for approval have supporting documentation, and have been approved at the appropriate level.

  • A Bachelor degree in Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Management, Finance/Accounting or equivalent qualifications.
