IRDO’s principal mandate is to design, implement and evaluate HIV/AIDS research and intervention programs that improve the health status of individuals and local communities.

Study Coordinator (IPrEP Study) 

Location: Homabay County

Terms: One year renewable, for up to three years

Earliest date position opens: March 1, 2017

Summary of study: IPrEP is an implementation science study designed to assess effectiveness of different adherence models of oral antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) for HIV prevention as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Job Summary: The successful candidate will be the overall in-charge of all aspects of study implementation. He/she will ensure data of the highest quality are collected; specifically, s/he will support the efforts of the PIs, other study investigators, research manager and internal monitor in ensuring timely enrollment and retention of study participants.

Key roles for the position

Pre study initiation:

  • Support the development of the study protocol and associated documents including consent forms and questionnaires
  • Oversee submission processes to regulatory bodies including ethical review committees
  • Prepare and oversee compliance with standard operating procedures for study activities

During study implementation.

•    Ensure community entry activities have been adequately done and engage with health facility staff.
•    Participate in hiring and training of study staff.
•    Oversee data collection, entry and submission across the study sites
•    Supervise other study staff and ensure they follow study protocol.
•    Ensure adequate pace of participant enrollment and high retention rate.
•    Take lead in preparing and submitting regular reports as needed.
•    Organize and participate in regular conference calls with local and international investigators

Post-data collection:

•    Plan for and execute study closeout and dissemination of results
•    Participate in the preparation of the final field report.
•    Participate in data analysis and manuscript writing

Minimum requirements

•    Masters degree in Public Health from recognized university required; diploma or bachelors degree in clinical medicine and surgery highly advantageous.
•    Prior participation in research projects and data collection activities.
•    At least five years’ experience in study coordination required, preferably in clinical trials.
•    Experience working with key populations advantageous.
•    Good communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
•    Competency in Microsoft Excel required: basic statistical analyses desired.
•    Evidence of at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal

Medical Doctor 

Location: Kisumu, overseeing activities in multiple Counties

Terms: One year renewable, for up to five years

Earliest date position opens: March 20. 2017

Job Summary: He/ She will be the clinical manager for all programs and research studies with a clinical component.

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Provide technical advice, guidance and sport to biomedical components of services provided to Key Populations, VMMC and research studies.
•    Monitor adverse events; investigate arid report severe adverse events appropriately.
•    Provide oversight to trainings on VMMC and research (where appropriate) and certification of the trainees.
•    Prepare and oversee implementation of SOPs and other training materials for both research and programs.
•    Closely work with specialist consultants to ensure clients receive expert management if deemed necessary.

Minimum Requirements:

•    Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized university, with at least 5 years post qualification clinical experience.
•    A Masters degree in Public Health highly advantageous.
•    Research experience at senior level and supervisory responsibilities necessary.
•    Must possess the following qualities: attention to detail, excellent teamwork, good communication skills, ability to work with minimum supervision, and high level of                       professionalism,
•    Must be willing to visit projects in the field at least 80% of the time.

Data Analyst 

Location: Kisumu, overseeing activities in multiple Counties

Terms: One year renewable, for up to five years

Earliest date position opens: March 20. 2017

Job Summary: Lead analyses of IRDO’s programs data from participating in data creation (including designing data tools and creating databases) to data cleaning and analysis.

The position will support use of data to inform program implementation and prepare presentations at local and international forums.

Will also take the lead in analyzing data for preparation of manuscripts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide training and support to the data team on data collection activities in the field, up to archiving of datasets.
• Liaise with data managers and programmers to ensure data quality by carrying out data validation including discrepancy/inconsistency checks and cleaning and report generation of records from the databases.
• Establish systems for routine analytic reports for on-going programs, and generate technical reports to support IRDO and donor requirements.
• Serve as a central source for program data and all requests for information

Minimum Requirements:

• Masters Degree in biostatistics, statistics, or applied mathematics.
• Minimum five years of professional experience conducting analysis of data arising from observational studies, randomized trials, quasi-experimental studies.
• Proficiency in data management and excellent hands-on experience with major data analysis software packages (Access, SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, etc.).
• Proficiency in statistical analysis, data management procedures and reports generation.
• Experience filtering and organizing large volumes of data prior to analysis.
• Ability to effectively conduct and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrate a strong background in technical writing.
• Ability to convey complex issues to a non-technical audience.
• Good understanding of public health issues particularly HIV/AIDS,
• Experience of leadership and supervision in a similar role.
• Candidates will demonstrate data analysis skills during the interview process

Job Summary: Provide Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) services, screen and treat Sexually Transited Infections, and other clinical role as assigned in Homabay and Turkana Counties OR Provide a minimum package of clinical services to selected populations including Key Populations, Fisherfolk, most vulnerable adolescent girls and young women aged 15-24 years as per the set National Guidelines/standards in Homabay and Siaya counties

Minimum Requirements:

• Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Clinical Officers) or Nursing (Nursing Officers).
• Must have at least one year’s experience in a busy health facility
• Should have training and practical experience in Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision.
• Knowledge on HIV/AIDS care and treatment or HIV Counseling and Testing advantageous.
• Ability to diagnose and treat Sexually Transmitted Infections.
• Must be pleasant, have good communication and leadership skills; and willing to work under pressure.
