Chemonics seeks a short-term mangrove and coastal ecosystem specialist for 2 to 3 weeks to work on the Mozambique Coastal City Adaptation Project (CCAP). The short-term specialist will support the field office and local stakeholders, including municipal authorities and community members, to determine the best option for successful and sustainable mangrove reforestation and/or rehabilitation in CCAP’s targeted areas. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement recommendations following recent assessments on green infrastructure and mangrove rehabilitation recently undertaken by CCAP
  • Lead a design workshop and collaboration efforts of current mangrove work in the municipality of Quelimane, and take lessons learned to design interventions in other target areas

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in forestry, environmental studies, botany, or similar field
  • At least eight years of experience working in the restoration and preservation of coastal ecosystems, with significant experience in mangrove planting practices
  • Significant experience working with multisector and multilevel stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders, from senior government officials to community members
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Chemonics and USAID practices, policies, and regulations
  • Strong organization skills; ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Experience in Mozambique or other southern African countries preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluent Portuguese strongly preferred
