PATH is currently recruiting for a Newborn and Child Health Specialist for an anticipated USAID Integrated Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health and Family Planning (MNCH/FP) program in Zimbabwe.

The purpose of the Zimbabwe MNCH/FP Program is improved maternal, youth, and child health and survival in beneficiary communities and populations. This purpose will be achieved by strengthening community systems and linkages; improving quality and youth friendliness of integrated MNCH/FP services throughout the continuum of care; and reducing socio-cultural barriers to improved health and health seeking behaviors.
The Newborn and Child Health Specialist will provide technical and strategic support to the Technical Director to plan and manage project activities related to newborn and child health as well as contribute to project work planning and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Technical Director on strategy development to guide the project’s newborn and child health priorities.
- Identify and develop approaches based on best practices in the design, implementation, and evaluation of project activities.
- Provide technical support to country staff to ensure effective and quality implementation of newborn and child health activities.
- Provide technical assistance on newborn and child health to civil society organizations and health center committees to ensure better community engagement.
- Contribute technical input to the training curriculum for healthcare workers, specifically related to newborn and child health.
- Contribute to the design and drafting of policy documents, , publications, project updates, guidance documents, presentations and donor reports.
- Support the MOHCC to implement newborn and child health policies and use evidence and best practices to inform policies to address barriers to accessing care.
- Coordinate and provide training to country staff on NCH resources and best practices
Required skills and experience:
- Advanced degree in public health/social sciences. Clinical training (medicine, nursing or midwifery) will be an asset.
- A minimum of 5 years progressively responsible, professional-level experience managing public health and health service delivery with emphasis on newborn and child health.
- In-depth knowledge of packages for newborn and child health e.g. Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI)
- Experience working in Zimbabwe on health–related activities strongly desired.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the major issues affecting newborns and children in all geographical regions of Zimbabwe, with in-depth knowledge of the implementation of newborn and child health programs in Zimbabwe.
- Demonstrated appreciation for project analysis and learning, including peer-reviewed publications and dissemination.
- Research, analysis, and writing capacity strongly desired.
- Demonstrated understanding of programs and organizational aspects of major international donors, organizations, foundations and private sector organizations that support newborn and child health.
