Project Summary: **
The project objective is to evaluate the performance and progress of the USAID/Kenya and East Africa (KEA) Kenya Feed the Future Innovation Engine (KIE) program. The KIE activity aimed to bring new and innovative technologies in horticulture, dairy, maize and staple food crop to market through identifying, incubating and scaling innovative agriculture value chain, private sector led businesses. The purpose of the evaluation is to assess the project’s design, in order to inform relevant future designs for innovation activities.

Position Summary:
The Private Sector Specialist will be responsible for reviewing the support the Kenya Feed the Future Innovation Engine (KIE) program provided to the Innovators in terms of business development and incubation. S/he will also be responsible for reviewing the innovations that touch on finance and IT applications. S/he must review the business potential and viability of each of the innovations and provide insights into Business Advisory Services in Kenya.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the team,
  • Contribute to the development of the evaluation methodology,
  • Develop the data collection instruments and protocols,
  • Conduct data collection and analysis,
  • Contribute to the writing of the final evaluation report, and
  • Present results to stakeholders
  • Other duties, as assigned by the Team Leader.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Business Administration or relevant field.
  • At least 7 years’ management consulting or similar private sector experience that has strengthened private sector organizations.
  • Familiarity with business development services in agriculture sector, including agribusiness and small and medium enterprise development
  • Experience in firm level production cost and profit analysis desired.
  • Must be familiar with modern IT applications in financial and business management
  • Experience in small and medium enterprise admin, finance, management and systems
  • Experience in farm and firm level production cost and profit analysis desired.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili
