Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development:

  • Draft project proposals and concept notes in coordination with program department/senior management team with regards to funder’s deadlines and specifications.
  • Maintain relationships with existing donors, respond to their requests regularly and keep updated them about the work of the organization.
  • Support partnership development between the organization and partner INGO/UN Agency including attending partnership initiative meetings, clusters and through initiation of networking and coordination
  • Coordinate with colleagues in the programmes team to compile the information/data analysis required for developing proposals and preparing donor reports for grants awarded, and give presentations in relevant regional clusters and to new potential donors
  • Provide comprehensive research and analysis on data gathering including, needs assessment and writing up reports and analysis for new fundraising initiatives, follow up approaches/enquiries via telephone, letter and emails
  • Regularly monitor for opportunities, sharing with relevant team members and helping to plan approaches to them.

Fundraising

  • Identify potential partners and establish relationships and program opportunities.
  • Manage and enhance relationships with existing donors and stakeholders, and identify new donors through networking, coordination and advocacy.
  • Develop plans, strategies and setting goals to hit fundraising targets and other supporting documents.
  • Write effective fundraising applications in response to calls for proposals from the current portfolio as well as new institutional and other donors
  • Assist in managing a system for maintaining all contacts, information and deadlines for each grant awarded and new fundraising opportunity.
  • Compile and maintain a database of international and local donor organizations (international foundations, bilateral and multilateral agencies and private corporations offering donations).

Organizational office Setting

  • The incumbent of the position will be in charge of organizational office set up in Kenya and overall office management. It is fundamental to this role that the candidate has a thorough understanding and experience of the role and the intricacies of liaison and planning and Serves as the principal focal point.
  • He/She will be integral part of organizing and arrangement of organizational registration document, purchasing and placement of office set up equipment. Monitor office expenditures and handle all office contracts (rent, service etc.)
  • Perform basic bookkeeping activities and update the accounting system, Monitor office supplies inventory and place orders

Duration and Payment

  • The contract shall start as soon as possible with duration 11 months and may be renewable based on performance and fund availability

Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, in particular ability to build meaningful relationships with potential and existing international donors
  • Demonstrated capacity to adapt to rapidly changing environments and to find innovative ways to respond to emerging organizational needs
  • Experience in planning, coordinating and organizing fundraising events
  • Excellent communication skills (writing and spoken), including a high standard of written and spoken English (other languages – Kiswahili-would be an asset)
  • Experience of working with grassroots organizations, Capability to take initiative, to plan and work independently, while being a strong and dependable team player
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Experience using donor database software/platforms

Experience of working with and/or in an NGO , building consortiums (highly desirable)

Qualification (Education/Work Experience)

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (preferably economics, politics, social development studies, humanities) or relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5-year experience working with an NGO, INGO or UN agencies in humanitarian context with strong understanding of fundraising or similar work in east Africa. Understanding of international development, including the humanitarian and development challenges facing vulnerable communities in conflict prone areas
  • Computer/word processing and standard office software skills.
  • Fluent in English (Speaking and Writing)
  • Experience in financial planning, budget setting and management and accountability
  • A proven track record of raising funds from a range of public, government and private sector

Daryeel Bulshu Guud -DBG (community care for all) is a non-political and non-profitable humanitarian relief- and development local organization which works to save lives, promote self-reliance and dignity through human transformation going beyond relief and development with its HQ in Mogadishu.

The organization has been operating in Somalia since 1992, initially started as international organization founded by German donors, however was reconstituted as local Somali association in 2014 fully managed by Somali professional technocrats.

DBG core mission is to alleviate the sufferings of conflict and drought affected Somali people through provision of holistic and multi-sectoral, sustainable programs that link emergency relief and long-term development from the grassroots level.

Have vast experience in both humanitarian and development sectors. In the last 10 years alone, DBG supported over three million direct beneficiaries in the in different sectors including Food Security/livelihood, Education, Shelter/protection, WASH and other developmental projects supporting youth and women and public institutional building in south central Somalia.

These have been achieved through funds from different donors including Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe-DKH, Caritas, German humanitarian assistance –AA, Federal Ministry for economic cooperation and development of Germany –BMZ, Common Humanitarian fund –CHF and Act Alliance.

With multimillion annual budget, building on past experience, in collaboration with local partners and other external actors, DBG is a part of the Somali civil society aiming to assist Somalia in restoring its mutual respect and trust required both for the establishment of new, viable public and private institutions.

The organization mobilizes resource through fundraising by local and international nongovernmental organizations, cooperates and public institutions while transporting the service to the vulnerable parts of the community though presenting and reporting to the world about the needs of the Somalis. The organization’s humanitarian activities are guided by the Sphere Project standards (Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Response) DBG is also a signatory to the ICRC Code of Conduct (Principles of Conduct for The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Response Programmes and member of the Somali NGO consortium

In its stabilization efforts, DBG was the first organization that installed lights along on a dividing psychological invisible line which once divided Mogadishu into north Vs south in 1990s.

With such peace building, social integration determined activities, better live appeared in those parts of the city, people could able to cross into the two directions where business and social activities swiftly extended finally overcoming from the psychological division.

While developing and seeking funding for well designed resilient and developmental projects targeting youth, women and civic engagement with good governance related objectives, DBG is looking support for: Social Dimension projects: return and reintegration of displaced and refugee populations, rehabilitation of basic social services, attention to the needs of the most vulnerable groups (women, children, groups in situations of extreme poverty, those handicapped by the war), reactivation of the social fabric.

Economic Dimension projects: overcome the distortions of the “economy of war”, re-establish a stable macro-economic framework, reconstruct the basic productive infrastructure, reactivate the production, demand and the local markets, strengthen food security, promote structural reforms fiscal reform, agricultural reform – that allow for the situations of poverty, inequality and exclusion to be overcome.

DBG will continue to work on the vital public institutional building efforts in the country, closely working with the government institutions, civil society and other non state actors over programs related to training of local authorities in participatory governance, consensus building among the different interest groups, and organization of local municipal and general elections.
