Partner Africa seeks to appoint a Programme Manager to be based in South Africa.

Reporting to: Executive Director, Partner Africa

Area of work: Trade development, training, programs and partnerships

Contract: Full time

Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience

Travel around South Africa, into Africa, The UK and Europe will be required.

The Programmes Manager will have responsibility for leading the effective management of all programme operations for Partner Africa. The post-holder will ensure that programme implementation is efficient and cost effective and in line with the organisations strategy and policies and those donor commitments are met. This post is to support a high quality ethical trade programme in Africa through providing leadership on implementing Partner Africa’s strategy via high quality programme development, effective preparation of major funding proposals, programme management including advising on monitoring and evaluation, developing and managing strategic partnerships and supporting capacity development of Partner Africa and Self Help Africa staff and partners.

The Programmes Manager sits on the Executive Team and reports directly to the Executive Director. The post-holder will also have technical management responsibility for non-audit services delivered by the Partner Africa Regional Coordinators.

Responsibilities:

Technical support, management, and direction for trade development programmes

  • Provide day to day technical support, management, and direction Partner Africa programs activity
  • Develop a strategy for program activity and public private partnerships
  • Create concept notes, and fundable proposals for submission to potential project funders
  • Oversee project implementation activities and the development of progress reports
  • Advise on monitoring and evaluation of projects
  • Bridge the gap between Partner Africa and Self Help Africa program knowledge and capacity ensuring strong synergy and learning opportunities
  • Identify the links and opportunities for program work under Self Help Africa that could contract in Partner Africa
  • Support the development of program related functions Partner Africa’s Salesforce
  • Responsible for budget and finance management as it relates to programmes in conjunction with the Head of Finance Manager and Self-Help Africa CFO

Partner, donor and client relationship management

  • Work with Partner Africa’s existing clients to develop non-audit service offerings
  • Build relationships with international funding bodies for ethical trade related activity in conjunction with partners and Self-Help Africa teams.
  • Attend meetings with key clients and funders for program activity
  • Lead Responsibility for relations with all strategic partner implementing agencies within Partner Africa programmes

Africa representation

  • Working with the Executive Director develop a strategy of representation for ethical trade related conferences and forums, clients and partnerships.
  • Working with the Self Hel Africa Programs Coordinator, develop relationships with ETI members; who are potential clients of our audit and training services.
  • Seek out relevant meetings and conferences to raise awareness of our work in Africa and in particular, South Africa
  • Report on trends within the CSR and Ethical trade sectors

Strategic development

  • Contribute to the overall strategic planning activity for Partner Africa
  • Facilitate an organisational self-assessment process (similar to the one in Self Help Africa)
  • Support the Executive Director in determining new and innovative opportunities to grow Partner Africa through services and partnerships
  • Support any other projects or duties as directed by the Executive Director

Requirements:

  • High level of drive, initiative, motivation, commitment and professionalism
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a management role
  • Educated to postgraduate level in a relevant discipline or with extensive experience in a similar role
  • Research, analytical and organisational skills
  • People management skills; ability to work as part of a team
  • Track record of successful relationships developed/maintained with clients
  • Proven track record of leadership in implementation of strategies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working on an executive (senior management) team with wider knowledge of financial, legal and organisational issues pertinent to international development NGOs
  • Existing knowledge and relationships in international values chains and clients
  • Computer literate (particularly Word and Excel)
  • Flexibility and the ability to work in a multi-cultural team
  • Commitment to working with a value-based organisation
  • Ability to work under pressure
