About NCA:

NCA works for the attainment and full realization of peoples’ basic rights through the development of local capacities and initiatives. NCA’s programme in Somalia has expanded and includes emergency and humanitarian interventions as well as long term development projects. NCA’s focus areas are Gedo, Banadir and Lower Shabelle regions of South Central Somalia, and the Puntland state. NCA is interested in continuing its support to the people of Somalia, and seeks to alleviate the negative causes and effects of recurrent emergencies on the vulnerable and suffering communities.

Purpose of Position:

Work with the NCA Education Team to support implementation of NCA Somalia Education programme as detailed in the NCA annual plan and 5-year strategy. The program ensures that planned project interventions respond to communities’ education needs as well as building the resilience of target communities through long-term development and advocacy initiatives.

Period of Contract: 12 months, renewable upon availability of funding

NCA is seeking a highly qualified and motivated person to fill the above-mentioned position.

Responsibilities of the Job holder:

  • Ensure timely implementation of projects under Education programmes
  • Support the Education and GBV Coordinator to supervise and provide technical support to relevant stakeholders including; Administration authorities, Community Education Committees (CECs), Teachers and civil society organization among others at field level for projects’ ownership and sustainability.
  • Support capacity building of key Education stakeholders (Teachers, CECs, Local Authorities) through trainings, and in addition facilitate mobilization and awareness campaigns on Education in Gedo region.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of NCA and partner schools, including the running of school feeding programme in all districts.
  • Support development of proposals related to Education Programming and any other as directed by the program Team leader.
  • Prepare timely programmatic reports, regular cluster 4W matrix, and preparation of work plans including documentation of case stories for submission to Programmes team in Nairobi and to respective donors as may be required.
  • Ensure integration of rights-based approach (RBR), Child protection and safety measures, Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), Do-Not-Harm (DNH) and gender equality in all assigned programs
  • In consultation with the Education and GBV Coordinator, participate in all relevant coordination forums (Education Cluster and Child protection working groups) at field level and any other as may be directed by the line manager.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as required.
  • Requirements for the Position

Education: A university degree in Education, Community development or any other relevant field.

Experience:

A minimum of 3 – 5 years of professional experience in Education or Child Protection related programmes within an International NGO in complex and challenging conditions is required. Substantial practical experience in development of education initiatives, training and capacity building, reporting and documentation are essential. He/she must have good knowledge of Humanitarian standards and principles including Do No Harm, SPHERE, Child Protection and Core Humanitarian Standards on accountability, etc.

Other competencies and attributes

  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills
  • Possess the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision adhering to strict deadlines
  • Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet.
  • Must adhere to set security standards
  • Ensure a gender perspective in the scope of work

Language: Excellent spoken and written English and Somali.
