Child Safeguarding:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post will require the post holder to have and direct regular contact with or access to children or young people

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of MHPSS Technical Manager, (Technical) and the Operations officer (line of management) the psychologist will provide the psychosocial support needed for children and their families identified through activities of child protection, health and education.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: MHPSS Technical Manager (Technically), Project Officer (Line of management)

Staff directly reporting to this post: none

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Conduct psychosocial training sessions and activities to parents, teachers, and children.
  • Contribute in the design of intake forms, session’s plans and follow up forms for children and their families.
  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to administer the psychometric assessments upon need and deliver reports accordingly.
  • Conduct one to one and group counseling sessions with children and families referred from project’s sites
  • Put rehabilitation plans for identified cases and follow up on them regularly.
  • Preparing and submitting reports on all cases and their progress.
  • Assist the PSS team in material development, training deliveries on topics regarding needs identified.
  • Help implement and supervise a case management system.
  • Supporting cases in need to individual psychotherapy as required.
  • Supporting children with disabilities with the appropriate intervention.
  • Identify, assess, Refer severe cases to appropriate psychological/psychiatric service providers

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A university degree in psychology, master degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in family and/or child counseling, experience in working with migrants and refugees is an asset.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including team leading and influencing.
  • Extensive experience in delivering trainings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Arabic and English are required.
  • Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and able to take decisions independently in fluid context;
  • Experience with refugee/marginalized communities desired;
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding
