Project Overview and Role

The Regional Coordinator supports the continued shift of TFA 2020 towards distributed governance and multi-centric facilitation, by acting as the main facilitator of the TFA 2020 platform in Africa.

The Regional Coordinator has the dual role of:

  • Catalysing the further development of the TFA 2020 platform in Ghana, Liberia, Cote d?Ivoire, and the rest of Africa, as a core element of the global TFA 2020 umbrella partnership
  • Supporting the development and implementation of regional strategic activities of the TFA 2020 that accelerate progress toward reaching deforestation goals through supply chain-based commitments and action, supported through the organisation and facilitation of the Africa Working Group of TFA 2020 and regional meetings, contribution to regional communication activities, facilitation and curation of regional activities on digital collaboration platform.
  • Recruitment for this position will be done on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities

The Regional Coordinator is expected to drive the TFA 2020 partnership towards the following outcomes:

  • Engagement and participation of regional stakeholders: Increased understanding of the opportunity of the TFA 2020 platform by regional stakeholders, and as a consequence a larger and diverse Partner base for TFA 2020, and increased ownership of the TFA 2020 agenda by national and sub-national governments at all levels, the private sector and forest country civil society organisations.
  • In particular, the Regional Coordinator for Africa is to:
    • Support the continued implementation of the Africa Palm Oil Initiative, in cooperation with the APOI implement partners at Proforest, to support the adoption of regional principles for sustainable palm oil development, and support the emergence of national partnership for the implementation of said principles
    • Engage with and support the Governments of Ghana, Liberia, and Cote d?Ivoire in their active membership in TFA 2020, and actively seek engagement in TFA 2020 by other West and Central African countries.
  • Connectivity and communication of partners? initiatives: Improved transparency on the initiatives of TFA 2020 Partners in the region, above and beyond those managed by the TFA 2020 South America Working Group, facilitating action-focused collaboration and learning opportunities both within region and across regions.
  • Accelerated action towards deforestation-free commodity production: On the base of improved engagement and connectivity, and on the back of the regionally relevant strategic initiatives, create opportunities to accelerate action for deforestation free commodity production, fostering public and private investments and private sector and civil society activities

Requirements

  • Masters degree or equivalent
  • A minimum of 7 years? professional experience in a relevant business or not-for-profit organization including consulting or academia, with experience in land use and forest and climate topics
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and synthesizing skills and the ability to communicate complex information succinctly
  • Service-oriented team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to work in a highly demanding environment and ready to juggle multiple priorities
  • Prepared for extensive travel including outside the region
  • Fluency in English and French, other West and Central African languages an asset.
