This position exists to contribute to WARO’s strategic objective for Finance by ensuring effective business critical support information is in place and contributing to maximize the availability of resources for programs by cost effective financial processes and other operating activities by timely and accurate management reporting.

It provides permanent support to in – country Finance teams in order to improve overall transparency and accountability in Plan’s external financial reporting.

This role is also involved in the review and consolidation of regional finance reports for a Regional budget worth € 73,795K.

Business planning processes

Indicator for success

  1. Provide support in communicating instructions and milestones within the region for business planning, including long-term planning, budgeting, quarterly forecasting and cash flow forecasting.
  2. Consolidate, review and analyse planning inputs from countries: annual budget, periodic updates/notifications, quarterly re-forecasting.

Accounting and treasury

  1. Prepare regional monthly cash flow forecasts based on countries’ forecasts.
  2. Monitor inter-company accounts for the region and help resolve issues in a timely manner.
  3. Keep and update bank details and bank accounts signatories for the region.
  4. Provide advice, guidance and support to countries and the RO for the use of corporate systems containing financial data: GL, PPM, GTS, SAP-BPC, etc.

Financial reporting and analysis

  1. Prepare and review periodic financial reports for the Region, including quarterly and year-end reports.
  2. Consolidate periodic regional financial reports
  3. Analyses and interpret financial information for the region.

Internal financial controls

  1. Review financial controls processes, procedures and systems in place at the Regional Office and country offices and make suggestions for improvements
  2. Work closely with CFMs and auditors on financial reviews and year-end audits;

Dealing with Problems:

Complexity of problems handled & the degree of investigation, analysis, & creative thinking required to solve them

Most common challenges relate to dealing with different/conflicting demands from a variety of clients and responding to tight deadlines; obtaining timely and accurate financial information could be a challenge and requires an excellent mastery of Plan’s organizational systems and management of relationships with key information owners.

The position reports to the Regional Financial Manager and basically involves capacity building, monitoring and support to countries. This is not a decision-making position.

This requires the development of excellent working relationships and communication skills that goes beyond regular management relationships

The role requires the ability to analyze data, qualitative indicators and reported issues to determine key risks, adverse trends and the appropriate corrective measures

The role requires knowledge and expertise on donor policies and regulations as well as Plan policies and procedures

Working contacts inside and outside the organization; include the purpose and level (high, medium, low) of the contact

Essential skills:

  • Qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years relevant post qualification experience
  • In depth knowledge of financial systems, financial management and reporting
  • Proficient in computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database, web-based system
  •  Working knowledge of written and spoken English

  • Communication skills, appropriate to the audience
