J-PAL Africa seeks a qualified applicant for a Research Associate (RA) position to work on a research project evaluating purchasing pattern of low-income prepaid electricity customers.
The position is based in Cape Town, and offers an opportunity to gain first-hand field and management experience on a cutting-edge development project. The RA will be hired on a 1 year contract with a possibility of extending depending on funding availability.
The RA will work closely with other members of the project management team comprising the Principal Investigators, a Research Manager and with partner organisations.
The tasks may include:
- Assisting with the overall project management, monitoring and implementation.
- Coordinating field logistics and supporting field teams.
- Contributing to data collection, cleaning and analysis.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of an Honour’s degree in economics, social sciences, political sciences or other undergraduate level degrees that include coursework in quantitative research methods.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Fluency in English. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent management and organizational skills, detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and be supervised remotely.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
- Experience with STATA or R is preferred.
- Experience managing teams and working in groups.
- Familiarity with randomized control trials.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work under time pressure and solve problems in field.
- Experience with data cleaning and analysis is preferred.
- Experience with SurveyCTO/ODK is advantageous.
