JOB PURPOSE:
The Research Officer will act as a key resource person in the Research and MEAL team, providing support in data design, management, analysis, and the broader research process. The Research Officer will work closely with the Research Manager, the MEAL Project Managers, and the Project Managers s/he will support.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Key responsibilities

  • Data quality
    • Implement and enforce data quality systems and monitor data quality
    • Train and support enumerators, project staff and MEAL staff in collecting and capturing quality data
    • Oversee data capturing
    • Design and implement data platforms including management of data capturing and verification
    • Support the development of data collection tools to enhance data quality
    • Provide support in organising and communicating data to project teams and partners
    • Provide data collection oversight and support in line with research principles and plans
    • Ensure appropriate storage and security of data
  • Data analysis and reporting
    • Analyse data according to research questions and project indicators
    • Provide support in drafting research reports and presentations based on analysis of data
    • Provide support to project teams in explaining results from research analysis
  • Research project support
    • Support ethics submission and follow-up.
    • Monitor project compliance to research protocols and ethics principles
    • Provide support in implementation research such as meeting coordination among collaborators, documentation, meeting reports, etc.
    • Support in broader research process such as research design, development of research questions, developing plan of analysis, etc.

Person Specification: Essential

  • Post-graduate degree in a relevant field, Masters with strong research experience preferred
  • Training and experience in statistical analysis of social science data
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent fluency in spoken, written English and other local languages
  • Advanced competence in MS Word, Excel, SPSS / SAS or relevant statistical programme
  • Driver’s license manual car

Preferred

  • Experience in working with communities and children
  • Experience in working with and managing data sets
  • Fluency in one African language
  • Understanding and/or experience in working within government systems
