Project Description:

Land O’Lakes International Development seeks an experienced Senior Nutrition Advisor to provide technical leadership on nutrition activities for Kenya Feed the Future Crop and Dairy Market Systems Development Activity. The program will focus on horticulture, staple crops and dairy market systems with an emphasis on sustainable market-driven approaches. The anticipated value is $50-$60M.

Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:

The Senior Nutrition Advisor will lead program activities to promote improved nutrition knowledge, practices, and status among the target population, especially women and children, and strengthen programmatic and research linkages between agriculture and nutrition. The Director will ensure the program’s strategic objectives and results are fully accomplished and documented and meet technical quality standards established by Land O’Lakes and USAID.

Technical

  • Develop a cross-cutting nutrition strategy that addresses the complex systems households operate within and incorporates key linkages with all target market systems.
  • Lead program activities related to nutrition, including staff and partner training, the development of behavior change communication materials and strategies, food processing and preservation technology development, and coordinating nutrition and agriculture research.
  • Coordinate with program leaders to identify opportunities to integrate nutrition into project activities related to dairy and crop production, income generation, and agribusiness development.
  • Facilitate linkages with local and international organizations providing nutrition, food security, and agriculture value chain development

Operational

  • Provide timely and accurate written and verbal reporting.
  • Contribute to project strategic planning and to well-written, focused project reports, annual implementation plans, success stories and other written products.
  • Ensure high quality project implementation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Make regular field visits to monitor project quality and collect data.
  • Collaborate with M&E staff to ensure that collection and analysis of data is accurate, rigorous and incorporated into project implementation.
  • Coordinate with other technical leads in work planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and adaptation.

Reporting& Supervision:

The Senior Nutrition Advisor will report to the Chief of Party.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, or related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of related field experience in nutrition programming, including development and management of nutrition programs related to infant and child nutrition, women’s nutrition, nutrition and HIV, and maternal health.
  • Experience establishing referral systems between livelihoods, agriculture and livestock, health, and nutrition programs and services.
  • Familiarity with best practices in behavior change communication strategies in support of nutrition programs
  • Experience working with the private sector to supply rural markets with nutrition foods a plus.
  • Significant experience conducting trainings, training of trainers, and organizational capacity building
  • Previous experience working with and building capacity of community-based organizations
  • Proven leadership and inter-personal skills and ability to build and motivate diverse and talented teams.
  • Excellent English language speaking and writing skills
