About Christian Aid
Christian Aid (CA) has worked in Sierra Leone for over 25 years, with a key focus on accountable governance, as well as other thematic areas. Christian Aid works with organisations, networks and coalitions at all levels (community, district, regional and national). CA works through a distinct partnership approach which reflects our firm belief that local organisations and people are best placed to solve their problems, with our support, not our direction. We have partners in very remote areas where few others operate due to the difficult terrain, as well as national partners who challenge the systems and structures that perpetuate poverty and inequality in Sierra Leone.
About SABI Programme:
The Strengthening Community-Led Accountability to Improve Service Delivery programme in Sierra Leone (referred to as SABI) aims to increase awareness of, and demand for, improved services, with service providers being increasingly accountable to citizens for results. The programme will be operating alongside and supporting the implementation of the Post-Ebola Recovery plan in the first instance. This presents an important opening for accountability programming, with the potential to make significant shifts in the role of citizens and the responsiveness of the state and service providers.
SABI is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). It is a four-year programme (2016-2020), which will partner with state and non-state actors across Sierra Leone, supporting mechanisms for enhancing relationships between citizens and service providers, gathering and sharing citizen-led data regarding service provision, providing grants and capacity building support, and sharing lessons learnt and replicable models.
About the role:
Based in Bo or Kenema, and with the support of the Head of Programme, you will be responsible for the delivery of SABI programme within the South and East regions through providing a supportive role to the Christian Aid partners under your purview. Through contributing toward detailed and accurate planning in the region with partners and key stakeholders in, the Senior Programme Officer will support and coordinate SABI partnerships and activities as well as the effective grant management to SABI partners and grantees. The Senior Programme Officer will also contribute to the representation of SABI, particularly within their focus region. The role will engage stakeholders in both district and regional levels and provide up to date and accurate reports regularly.
About you:
You will have experience in donor funded development work, and relevant experience of programme delivery, appraisal, and working in partnership with Sierra Leonean Civil Society Organisations. With a bachelor degree (or equivalent) in development studies, international relations, accountable governance, political science or similar discipline, you will have skills in mainstreaming gender and social inclusion issues into programme work, and will come with some demonstrable understanding of accountable relationship building, and experience of facilitation, training and network building.
