Position Summary:

The Senior Reading Specialist provides overall technical oversight and guidance to the activity’s support to improved reading instruction, including standards, benchmarks, curricula, and assessment systems.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Senior Reading Specialist reports to the Chief of Party and supervises several project staff.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Successful implementation of the education project.
  • Achievement of project goals.
  • Enhanced technical capacity of project staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the production of all activity-supported material, all activity-supported trainings, all teacher and classroom supervision and monitoring, and all student testing efforts.
  • Ensures complementarity of activity approaches in education across the activity provinces and language areas, liaises with government representatives and technicians on technical matters, and bears ultimate responsibility for ensuring that children in activity-supported schools achieve improved outcomes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in education or related pedagogically oriented field;
  • At least 4 years of experience in work specifically to improve education programming directed to rural, ethno-linguistic underserved populations;
  • At least four additional years of experience improving educational quality in developing countries is required;
  • At least five years of experience in Sub-Saharan Africa is desired;
  • Prior experience with supporting family/community engagement of education outcomes;
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken and English.
