Purpose

Plan Kenya, Department of Children Services and UNICEF are partnering to operationalize the Child Protection Center (CPC) in Kakamega County that will be a one stop facility for child protection services and referral center for children in distress and their families.  The CPC will be jointly managed by staff from the Department of Children Services and Plan.

The holder of this position will work closely with staff from the department of children services to conduct assessments for children needing psychosocial services, conduct home visits and social enquiries for children seeking services at the CPC, rescue of children in need of care and protection and finally reintegration and reunification.

The position holder must be ready to adhere to Plan values and policies and sign the Child Protection Policy.

KEY DELIVERABLES:

 

Together with Children Officers from the Department of Children Services: 

  • Conduct home visits for social enquiries (assessment) for children/families seeking services at the CPC.
  • Rescue and placement of children in rescue centers and alternative family based care.
  • Psychosocial needs assessment and referral.
  • Preparation of children attending court.
  • Train caregivers on effective parenting both at the CPC and also during community outreach activities.
  • Work with referral partners in providing services to children and their families.

Academic Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social Work, Sociology or Community Development.  3 years’ experience in child development work in urban and rural settings.
  • Good training and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of child rights and child participation.
  • Experience in training adults.
  • Experience in working in a dynamic child protection organization at National level

Physical Environment and Demands:

Typical office environment with field visit demands, local and international travel whenever necessary.

Set up in 1937, the organisation provided food, shelter and clothing to children whose lives had been destroyed by the war.
