Sustainable Agriculture Advisor – Uganda

Position Description

The Sustainable Agriculture Advisor will lead the agriculture/livelihoods component of a multi-sectoral development assistance program and will provide technical support to address nutrition challenges in targeted communities in northern Uganda. The Sustainable Agriculture Advisor will design activities and support social and behavior change campaigns to develop the livestock market, increase demand and use of improved inputs, and promote uptake of climate smart agriculture techniques and technologies. He or she will collaborate with the program’s nutrition team to promote the production of nutrition foods. The Sustainable Agriculture Advisor will also support program M&E activities and will coordinate with local public and private sector entities and other ongoing donor interventions.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Agriculture or a related field.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience leading agriculture components on large donor funded projects, preferably in Uganda.
  • Demonstrated capacity to design and lead agriculture activities.
  • Understanding and demonstrated commitment to the importance of gender and youth issues in food security programming.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills especially working with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • At least five years of managerial experience overseeing technical teams and consultants.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English and other local languages, as needed.
