ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This position is located in WFP Ethiopia country office based in Addis Ababa, under the direct supervision of the Project Manager of the Food Management Improvement Project, a capacity building initiative under the Logistics Unit; and the overall supervision of the Sr. Logistics Officer (Head of Supply Chain unit)

JOB PURPOSE

To support the development of sustainable training programmes to build skill-sets and competencies of government staff to implement FMIP products.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the FMIP Project Manager, the Training Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the development of sustainable training programmes to build skill-sets and competencies of government staff to implement FMIP products. He/She will be expected to work with concerned FMIP staff to propose, develop, and implement trainings and post-training programmes that address identified skill and competency gaps in implementing FMIP products.

The key responsibilities of this position are:

  • Develop training plans (including budget) for approval;
  • Coordinate with FMIP and government stakeholders to design, deliver, evaluate and revise existing training and post-training support activities;
  • Lead efforts at securing procurement of required vendors for full implementation of the trainings;
  • Track and report on implementation plan of trainings and post-training support activities;
  • Gather all existing FMIP training materials, standardize and improve them where possible to contribute to the production and availability of these materials to time and quality standards;
  • Maintain training databases and training records, as well as access to training materials;
  • Maintain and develop excellent relations with training partners, educational experts, and programme stakeholders;
  • Actively seek and use feedback to improve business processes and procedures.
  • Respond to complex business support queries in order to provide a timely and accurate resolution of enquiries for clients.
  • Assess and recommend improvements to procedures and practices, to contribute to the effective delivery of business support services.
  • Perform as a trainer, or a resource person as needed. Identify suitable training venues, and organize necessary logistical arrangements;
  • Facilitate and/or prepare training manuals/handbooks and ensure their effective dissemination/use;
  • Coordinate all FMIP training programmes’ related logistics and administrative support.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbent will fill the role of Business Support Assistant as required. He/She will be required to support the project staff in executing their activities by liaising with external providers and government counterparts, inviting participants to FMIP events, organizing travel, DSA disbursements, and payments to third parties.
  • Other requirements, as required.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Proven project management and information management experience.
  • Experience in conceptualizing and leading large scale workshops. With ability to liaise confidently and consult effectively with a broad array of stakeholders and to present to large audiences.
  • Some experience in procurement and administrative support would be considered an added advantage.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in business management,supply chain or related area. First University degree in a field related to Business Administration and/or Supply Chain Management is an added value

Experience: 6 or more years of progressively responsible experience in support work out of which at least 1 year of experience in supply chain project management or coordination of large scale training activities;

LANGUAGE

Fluency in both oral and written communication in English. Knowledge of the local language is added advantage.

The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

WFP was first established in 1961[4] after the 1960 Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Conference, when George McGovern, director of the US Food for Peace Programmes, proposed establishing a multilateral food aid programme. The WFP was formally established in 1963 by the FAO and the United Nations General Assembly on a three-year experimental basis. In 1965, the programme was extended to a continuing basis.

Organization

The WFP is governed by an Executive Board which consists of representatives from 36 member states. Ertharin Cousin is the current Executive Director, appointed jointly by the UN Secretary General and the Director-General of the FAO for a five-year term. She heads the Secretariat of the WFP. The European Union is a permanent observer in the WFP and, as a major donor, participates in the work of its Executive Board.

Its vision is a "world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life."

The WFP has a staff of about 11,500 people, the majority of whom work in remote areas.
