POSITION SUMMARY:

The Roving Health and Nutrition Manager oversees all technical and program quality aspects of health and nutrition activities in World Relief South Sudan’s areas of operation, reporting to the Head of Programs. This role involves coordination with Area Coordinators and program staff, as World Relief South Sudan employs an area-based management strategy. The manager will provide technical and managerial leadership to health and nutrition teams, ensuring high-quality activities that respond to assessed needs. Based in Juba, the manager will make regular visits to field locations, including hardship and insecure environments, spending 75% of the time in the field.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role is responsible for supervising others and includes responsibilities consistent with supervising employees, including but not limited to monitoring daily work activities, tracking and approving timesheets including approving time off, monitoring performance including entering goals, progress check-ins, and weekly or bi-weekly check-ins, documenting performance concerns, entering staff promotions, transitions, and separations in HRIS within required time frame. Managers at World Relief are also considered spiritual leaders and are expected to lead staff in a manner consistent with our Christian values, including but not limited to praying with staff, leading devotionals, and fostering a Christian environment in interactions with staff throughout World Relief.
  • Supervise all nutrition and health programming across South Sudan. Responsible for the implementation, management, quality assurance, and support for the health and nutrition projects in alignment with the activities plans, timeframes, and budgets.
  • Manage correct and timely procurement and logistics around equipment, nutrition supplies and medicines and medical supplies (within the available budgets), and ensure the safe handling, storage, and distribution of these items from the time of procurement until delivery to clients.
  • Ensure that minimum stocks are maintained.
  • Manage the safe and efficient handling of nutrition and health supplies and equipment.
  • In a matrix system, oversee health and nutrition program implementers and provide support to recruitment, development and training, and performance management.
  • Utilize data on program implementation and the health information system to track program progress and to adapt the program to ensure that the program saves lives and builds resilience in the targeted populations. Implement and monitor accurate data collection systems, making programmatic changes as needed.
  • Assess staff training needs and facilitate appropriate training sessions.
  • Lead external engagement within South Sudan for the nutrition and health sectors, including engagement in the clusters and technical working groups at national level and support to staff in other locations to participate at the sub-national level.
  • Coordinate activities with Ministries of Health, UN agencies, clusters, other partners, and funding agencies.
  • Play an active role in needs assessments, proposal development, budgeting, and project review processes.
  • Coordinate activities with Ministries of Health, UN agencies, clusters, other partners, and funding agencies.
  • Develop programs with local counterparts using a community development approach.
  • Ensure compliance with WHO and South Sudan Ministry of Health guidelines.
  • Participate in World Relief’s global health and nutrition community of practice and liaise frequently with the home-office health and nutrition staff to align programs.
  • Maintain clear communication with all staff every week.
  • Promote and use World Relief’s resources for program quality and available standard tools on the SharePoint Library, and ensure that any reports, presentations, or documents are aligned with branding guidelines.
  • Promote sustainable health programs with innovative solutions.
  • Coordinate with other World Relief programs for an integrated community development approach.
  • Exemplify Christian character and mission in all interactions.
  • Strengthen the local church’s capacity for supporting health initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of programs or Country Director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • Three years of professional experience in managing or advising clinical and public health programs.
  • Up to 100% domestic and/or international travel required
  • Two years of experience in hardship postings or complex emergencies, with proven leadership experience.
  • Experience in donor reporting (e.g., USAID, UN Agencies) preferred.
  • Ability to work in fluid and insecure areas; maturity and adaptability to harsh living conditions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in donor reporting preferred
  • Medical Degree or related qualification: Master’s or other professional degree preferred.
