International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. Background
International Medical Corps (IMC) assessment team arrived in Mozambique on March 23, and from March 26-29, the team travelled throughout the Sofala region and to Chimoio, Nhamantanda, Tica, Dondo, and Metuchira to determine the preliminary impact of Cyclone Idai on health system and the current availability of emergency and other health services outside the Beira area. These initial assessments and discussions with key partners in the response, highlighted the increasing numbers of displaced persons concentrating in temporary and/or informal camps. The death toll in Mozambique has risen above 600 people, according to the government.
