The Requirements

· BA in Agricultural Sciences or related field and 10 years in increasingly senior positions in agriculture or related development sector;

OR

· MSc in Agricultural Sciences or related field and 7 years in increasingly senior positions in agriculture or related development sector;

OR

PhD in Agricultural Sciences or related field AND 5 years in senior position in agriculture or related development sector

  • Excellent understanding of agricultural economics, value chains, agronomy, nutrition, gender equality, youth challenges, and climate adaptation;
  • Strong commitment towards and knowledge of sustainable agriculture (conservation agriculture, regenerative agriculture, agroforestry and crop-forestry-livestock integration, organic agriculture and environmental protection, and clear record against GMO and chemical agriculture
  • Excellent knowledge and background in horticulture and pomology in particular, with a focus on mango and cashews;
  • Successful candidates will have significant project
    management and project design experience (preferably in the Sub-Southern
    African context);
  • Excellent mastering of basic computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point), good knowledge and use of GIS would be a plus;
  • Willing to travel and spend time in the field;
  • Very strong personal and professional ethics;
  • Very good language skills, written and spoken in Portuguese and English, local languages from Northern Mozambique would be a plus;

· Coordinates with the AKF Global Technical Team and particularly the Global Technical Advisor on the design of a strong AKF Mozambique strategy, technical framework and approach and systems around the agriculture, food security and climate adaptation sub-themes;

· Supports the Country Manager, Program Manager and the national team in the development of strong technical approaches, incorporating lessons learned and best practices from existing projects;

· Serves as the national agriculture technical lead on communication and proposal writing to donors and partners;

· Ensures overall ownership of AKF Mozambique Agriculture and Food Security Strategy among AKF Mozambique staff, partners and beneficiaries;

· Ensures that best technical standards in program/project planning, design and implementation are complied with to maximize the socioeconomic, livelihood and environmental benefits;

· Facilitates technical design and training workshops;

· Provides technical review and support of ongoing projects to ensure alignment with the strategy and technical framework;

· Supervises the learning and knowledge management of AKF Mozambique in the area of Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Adaptation;

· Supervises the measurement, documentation, analysis and interpretation of technical data;

· Provides timely and accurate technical solutions to implementation and operational challenges;

· Takes the direction of projects as instructed by his hierarchy with all the planning, reporting, HR, administrative, financial and logistical leadership it implies;

· As part of a consortium of partners jointly implementing an agriculture programme in Cabo Delgado, the candidate will lead on AKF’s project implementation for a mango value chain strengthening project, and provide technical and capacity building support to other team members.
