Antenatal & Postnatal class curriculum designer and master trainer at The DG Murray Trust 13 views1 applications

A group of funders, together with the DG Murray Trust, is launching a national Zero-Stunting Initiative committed to halving stunting in the next decade. The prevalence of stunting, a condition where children do not reach their growth potential due to chronic malnutrition, is worryingly high in South Africa, with the recent national Demographic and Health Survey estimating the national prevalence of stunting for children under two being 31%. Stunting is associated with lifelong cognitive defects, educational and employment challenges, increased risk of chronic diseases in adulthood, and cycles of intergenerational poverty.

The Zero-Stunting Initiative seeks to achieve four objectives:

  • Support and promote behaviour change of mothers through universal access to antenatal and postnatal classes
  • Catalysing Community Healthcare Workers into ‘Champions for Children’
  • Change the culture of early child feeding practices (both non-exclusive breastfeeding and poor weaning practices) through disruptive mass media communications
  • Drive national commitment to Zero-stunting by 2030 through data-driven advocacy

To this end, the Zero-Stunting Initiative is recruiting a high-value, high-performance team to lead this work and achieve the ambitious goal of halving the prevalence of stunting in South Africa within a decade.

The Antenatal & Postnatal class curriculum designer and master trainer:
Will be primarily responsible for the design and development of a carefully crafted antenatal and postnatal class curriculum that speaks to the various drivers of stunting and which supports and empowers pregnant mothers and babies through the critical first 1000 days of life. This individual will be primarily responsible for overseeing the training of franchisees on the delivery of the curriculum and program quality assurance. They will have:

  • A university degree (preferably in health sciences or sociology)
  • Experience in developing training material and rolling out national training programmes
  • Great organisational and communication skills

Each position is a 3-year performance-contract post. Salary negotiable, based on skills and experience. All positions (bar CHW Master Trainer & Communications Specialist roles) are based in Johannesburg, with a significant amount of domestic travel. CHW Master Trainer and Communications Specialist roles could be based in either Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Interested candidates should send a short letter of motivation, CV and just the names and contact details of three referees, by email, to [email protected]  Closing date for applications: 30 November 2017.

The DG Murray Trust is a funder of public benefit organisations. Our ultimate goal is to create an ethical and enabling environment where human needs and aspirations are met; and every person is given the proper opportunity to fulfil his or her potential, for both personal benefit and for that of the wider community.

By investing in South Africa’s potential we aim to: Create opportunity for personal growth and development that will encourage people to achieve their potential. Help reduce the gradients that people face in trying to seize those opportunities. Affirm the value and dignity of those who feel most marginalised and devalued by society.

DGMT is a South African foundation built on endowments from Douglas George Murray and his wife, Eleanor. Murray was the son of, and successor to John Murray, the founder of the Cape-based construction company, Murray and Stewart which was established in 1902. This company merged in 1967 with Roberts Construction to become Murray & Roberts, with the parent Trusts as the main shareholders. In 1979, the Trusts combined to form the DG Murray Trust, which over the years has diversified its investments. It currently distributes about R110 million per year.
