Position: Assistant Accountant
Report to: Grant Accountant with matrix reporting line to Project Coordinator
Location: Adjumani (West Nile), Uganda
Purpose of the position:
Review and monitoring grants budgets and make payments for invoices submitted. Ensure completeness and accuracy of vouchers before payment to ensure costs are allowable and within available budget and right budget lines.
Maintain daily ledger in line with WFP finance reporting requirements and prepare monthly transaction list and finance report as part of monthly invoicing process,
Participate in monthly finance review meeting, participate in Audit especially Audit Recommendation implementation and Asset Management for the project.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide grants and financial technical support to the response/grants program staff including on-the-job training in order to maintain accurate and reliable financial information
- Prepare and file supporting documents for all accounting transactions in compliance with WVU & WVI financial policies and guidelines and coordinate banking issues
- Participate in the preparation monthly bank reconciliation with the support of the Grant Accountant & Senior Finance Officer
- Manage staff travel and business advances by ensuring accuracy, authenticity, completeness and timely retirement of advances and monthly Account Allocation in SUN
- Prepare payment vouchers (using Voucher Interface) and allocate various response and grants expenses to different cost centers/grants in compliance with WV Cost Allocation Methodologies and donor requirements and managing petty cash
- Participate in the audit processes of the projects, particularly facilitating audit team members’ easy access to the project financial records
- Code & Monitor budgets and also participate in the preparation of different project reports
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
- Degree in finance, BCom or equivalent or CPA/ACCA
- Experience in WFP programming
- Atleast 2 years in finance (receivables and payments)
- CPA or ACCA
- Effective in written and verbal communication in English
- The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10 % of the time.
