Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for an Associate Program Manager, Alternative Child Care and Child Safeguarding who will assists the Alternative Child Care and Child Safeguarding Manager r in making sure quality program services are delivered to children and care givers in alternative care model.

Your role….

As an Associate Program Manager, Alternative Child Care and Child Safeguarding you will be in charge of the following:

  • Coordinating and guiding the living arrangements of youths..
  • Designing training programs for youths.
  • Searching for educational opportunities locally and abroad for youths.
  • Following-up on the admission of youth to training and educational opportunities locally and abroad.
  • Searching for Internship and employment opportunities for the youth with organizations and administers such placement and follow-up.
  • Working closely with program staff to study and organize self-employment
  • Keeping proper records of all youths who are in different training centre, collages, universities and assists them in all possible alternatives.
  • Coordinating and monitoring the work of Aunts, Youth care co-workers and Community social workers.
  • Directing the professional development of Aunts, Youth care co-workers and Community social workers.
  • Evaluating and monitoring the services provided by Youth care co-workers, Aunts and Other forms ACC guardians/caregivers.
  • Ensuring that ACC families are empowered to create a caring family environment for their children..
  • Preparing consolidating monthly/quarterly and annual progress reports of youth programs and other forms (OFACC) program.
  • Conducting performance review of Aunts, Youth leaders and Community social workers
  • Work in partnership with stakeholders towards the works of foster care, kinship care and local adoption programmes.
  • Designing short and long term strategies and implement youth development of the location.

The must haves:

  • BA Degree in sociology, Social work or similar discipline.
  • 4 years of relevant work experiences particularly with children and youth
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and local language(s).
  • Experience in project management, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of children’s rights and rights-based approaches in the development of programmes.
  • Awareness and understanding of social development issues including gender, education, health, HIV/AIDS, etc.
  • Understanding of human resource development.
  • Experience in budget development.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under high pressure.
  • Positive and professional approach: highly organised, results oriented, using initiative and keeping commitments.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office and MS project)
  • Experience in community mobilization.
  • Knowledge of national policy developments in the area of child welfare and youth development.
  • Problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Knowledge on stakeholder management.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Motivational skills
  • Organizational and planning skills

The Pluses:

  • Having 2nd grade driving licence is advantageous
  • Prior NGO experience is advantageous
