SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is a national member association to the International Federation of SOS Children’s Villages. It is non- political, not-for-profit, and non-religious social development organization focused on the wellbeing and development of children. It was founded in 1974 and has been a development partner since then with positive outcomes in the lives of many children, families and communities.
The SOS Children’s Villages Program Addis Ababa, VTC are looking for competent and able Automotive Instructor that meets the requirements stated bellow.
Position summary
Under direct supervision of Automotive Department head and the general guidance of Education and Training head, the Automotive Trainer is generally responsible for the acquisition of skill, knowledge and behavior by trainees and particularly for preparing TTLM, Modules, Information sheet, Operation sheet, Progress checklist; and carrying out formative and institutional assessment. S/he is also responsible for the upkeep of tools, equipment and materials given to him as custodianship to deliver the training; receiving and handling customer request and property, and assists in the procurement of training materials.
Job summary
Under the direct supervision of Head of Automotive department and the general guidance of the Education and Training Head, the position holder is generally responsible for the acquisition of skill, knowledge and behavior by trainees and particularly for preparing TTLM, Modules, information sheet, operation sheet, progress chart; and carrying out formative and institutional assessment. Moreover, he/she will involve in maintenance activities of vehicles.
General aim of the position
The aim of the position is to deliver quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training while ensuring effective HR utilization.
Cooperation and Reporting Relationships
The Automotive Instructor establishes close work relationship and cooperation with staff of Education and Training in particular and all staff of the college in general. S/he closely works particularly with Automotive Instructors and Trainers, Head of Education and Training, Partnership and Quality Management Officer, College Registrar and Maintenance Technician. The Automotive Trainer directly reports to automotive department head, and when necessary s/he reports to Education and Training Head.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Based on the plan of college, training objectives and individual plan, s/he organizes all the resources needed for effective implementation
- Conduct both practical and theoretical training sessions
- Conduct assessment of competencies of trainees regularly
- Good understanding of outcome-based and project-based training approach
- Report progress trainees and assessment result of each unit of competencies and upon completion of each level
- Prepares individual work plan and performance report
- Participate in participatory planning at the college and department level
- Participates in curriculum development and revision
- Assign extra consultation hour for trainees
- Follow up and supervise trainees in industry/company training (cooperative training)
- Participates in departmental team work and self-development programmes
- Takes responsibility for safe use and handling of college property under his/her custody
- Comply with college and organizational wide rules, regulations, procedures and methods
- Performs other duties as assigned by the college

Job Requirements
Education:
- The position holder is required to have at least B.Sc./B.Ed. in Automotive Technology/Engineering, Auto Mechanics, Automotive Electrical-Electronics, Automotive Engine Servicing or Automotive Power Train and Under Chassis Servicing.
- Must be certified in occupational competency assessment (COC) at least at level 3 and/or 4 in one of Automotive occupational fields or willing to be assessed immediately after employment.
- Advantageous to have been certified in TVET/outcome-based training methodology.
Experience:
- Preferable to have a minimum of two years’ work experience as TVET trainer/Instructor or in the automotive industry or renowned automotive workshops or after sales service workshops as mechanic/technician or other areas.

- Good understanding of the science of automotive technology
- Experience and knowledge of curriculum development and revision
- Practical demonstration skill
- Good understanding of the current TVET system and the training methodology
- Good coordination skill and team spirit
- Good interpersonal and communication skill with work colleagues, trainees, partner organizations and other stakeholders
- Thorough understanding of the TVET sector strategy and policy in Ethiopia
- Neatness and physical fitness for the profession
Other skills
- Strong Microsoft Office computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook; intermediate experience with databases
- Intermediate English language skill and fluency in Amharic
- Knowledge or awareness of quality management or quality control
- Report writing skill
- Business/entrepreneurship skill
- Knowledge of work place communication and ethics
