SCOPE OF WORK/ JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of Program Manager, the Business skills Trainer Officer will supervise the livelihood activities in the Shire refugee camps (Adi Harush and Mai Aini Camps)The Business skills Trainer will be responsible for the implementation of integrated entrepreneurship education for women and girls in May-ayni and Adi-harush camp. He/she will also be responsible to monitor and evaluate the progress of the trainees throughout the training, at the end of the training session, business plan development, startup capital provision, and small business establishment.

 

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Develop lesson plans and training materials and revise the business and life skills curriculum to meet trainees’ need.
  • Deliver training for women and girls on basic business and life skills based on developed curriculum.
  • Conduct follow-up with trainees to answer any questions and ensure that curricula are being implemented correctly and effectively
  • Respond to requests for additional training or facilitation
  • Work with the CWI staff to adapt the curriculum to the needs of women and girls.
  • Conduct post-training assessments upon the completion of each training and support the trainees in developing their own business plan.
  • Conduct follow up meetings with graduates and provide technical support in the process of setting up small businesses.
  • Conduct follow-up and a mentoring visit to graduates starting a small business.
  • Organize special learning events for trainees by inviting guest speakers to positively influence them.
  • Organize/arrange special events for trainees to display their talents, business ideas, traditional skills products, etc.
  • Prepare and revise action plans to support mentoring activities.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and provide analysis and recommendations on the training/education offered.
  • Ensure and follow up the procurement of program inputs for proper implementation of the training program.
  • Prepare and submit success as well as challenges of the training along with monthly progress reports.
  • Assist in Community Well-being Initiative Response and Prevention activities when requested by the CWI field team.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities that can be given by immediate and technical supervisors.

Job Requirements

Minimum Skills and Qualification:

  • BA in business studies, social science field, youth development and /or other related fields
  • 2 years of experience in NGO setting mainly experience on training business and life skills, and vocational training;
  • Proven experience in facilitation and community mobilization skills;
  • Technical and report writing skills;
  • Fluent spoken and written English  and local language;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Related work and field experiences in social service provision with women and girls is advantageous;
  • Ability to use MS office, excel, email and PowerPoint applications very well
  • Able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to details

Since October 2012, the IRC has been responding to humanitarian needs of Nigerians. The IRC initially intervened in response to floods that affected over 7 million people across the country, destroying harvest and damaging homes. The IRC is currently implementing programs in Health, Protection, WASH, Nutrition, Food Security, and Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) in Adamawa and Borno States in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The IRC is dedicated to making women and adolescent girls healthier from the earliest phase of acute crises (a target group most vulnerable during crisis) and implements evidence-based reproductive health interventions in line with the SPHERE-standard Minimum Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health in Crises (MISP). The goal is to ensure that the IRC’s health responses in emergencies include the core package of Reproductive Health (RH) services in its interventions.

The IRC’s Reproductive Health (RH) program is currently implementing (MISP) for RH in 4 health care centers in MMC and Jere LGAs and 1 IDP camp clinic. In addition the program is starting up an emergency mobile programming outside of these areas of Maiduguri in coordination with the WPE team. The focus of this program is to provide quality comprehensive RH and WPE services to conflict-affected women and girls in a timely manner. In addition to the mobile program, the WPE and RH joint mobile teams will be in charge of rapid assessments and rapid response. The mobile teams will be focused in the newly opened LGAs and emergency areas previously inaccessible due to conflict and insecurity. These teams will provide life-saving services to populations outside of Maiduguri, who have not had access to services in approximately 3 years.
