Christian Aid is an agency of British and Irish Churches working in both development and humanitarian areas with the world’s poor in over 50 countries. Christian Aid’s connection with Ethiopia goes back to the 1970’s when the famine affecting the whole Sahel region drew the world’s attention to the needs of Ethiopia and neighbors.
However, Christina Aid Ethiopia was formally set up in 1997 and registered with the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice and the Disaster Prevention and preparedness commission in 1999 and reregistered in 2009 as per CSA Proclamation. The Programme of the work that Christian Aid supports in Ethiopia encompasses mainly Climate resilience, Livelihoods and inclusive markets, Humanitarian, and Gender and Inequality. Though its membership of Action by Churches together (ACT), Christian Aid is able to provide humanitarian assistance in times of emergency. Christian Aid Ethiopia follows dual approach in its operations (working through local organizations and directly self-implementing with local communities). We believe that indigenous or locally based Non-Governmental Organizations are the best placed and the most able to work with the local population for a better future.
