Call for Health and Operational Experts in Nigeria

Abt Britain is starting to recruit for various roles for the Health Investment in Nigeria programme (HIIN). HIIN is an integrated HSS programme, valued at £90M over eight years commencing in 2019. The programme aims to (i) encourage the Government of Nigeria to increase resources invested in health, (ii) improve effectiveness and efficiency of public and private basic health services, and (iii) reduce total fertility rate in Nigeria. Geographically will operate in five states (Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe) and at the Federal Level. This is a new programme but consolidates the existing DFID health portfolio in Nigeria.

Along with a Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader, we will be looking for health experts, particularly in the following technical areas:

  • Health systems strengthening
  • Health financing
  • Public financial management
  • Health governance
  • Institutional and individual capacity building
  • Advocacy and accountability
  • Health information systems and data
  • Private sector health
  • Family planning
  • Gender, equity and social inclusion
  • Monitoring, evaluation and learning

Opportunities for operational experts in the following areas will be also available:

  • Finance and administration
  • Information communication technology
  • Human resources
  • Operations and Logistics
  • Security

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree qualified in a related field, preferably Masters
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required

General Professional Experience:

  • Experience working within the Nigerian health sector, with demonstrable impact
  • Experience liaising with and supporting the Federal Ministry of Health, state ministries of health and/or Local Government Authorities in Borno, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Lagos and Yobe
  • Experience working with the private sector, non-governmental organisations and/or civil society organisations to strengthen health outcomes in Nigeria
  • Experience with donor-funded programmes, specifically DFID, is preferred
  • Experience across finance, administration, human resources and operations of complex, multi-geographical locations
