Position Title: Case Worker

Department: Self-Reliance through Livelihood Project

Compensation Band: Band 4

Reports to: Project Officer – Case Management

Country/Location: Egypt – Maadi Office

Background

The CRS Egypt country program began in 1956 at the invitation of the Egyptian president Nasser by providing relief assistance to the victims of the Suez War. Over the following few decades, CRS Egypt moved from large-scale food relief to long-term poverty alleviation and development programs. CRS Egypt works in a wide variety of areas within the development field.

Currently, CRS Egypt has three main programs: the livelihoods program, interfaith peacebuilding program and the education assistance program for refugees. Projects under these programs range from the provision of technical assistance and capacity building to partners, and promoting peace and tolerance, to educational grants for refugees, and the protection of children who are victims of trafficking. Additional programming includes Emergency Preparedness and Response projects that arise as need be. A regional Management Quality unit assists the country program support department in developing and maintaining the highest level of operations standards.

CRS Egypt currently holds a main office in Cairo, and a sub-office in Maadi.

CRS livelihoods program is currently funded by the US Government through Bureau of People, Refugees, and Migration (BPRM) to support the business start-up for refugees and asylum seekers of all nationalities in Cairo. The support is through business and legal trainings, provision of start-up grants and ongoing post-grant support to ensure sustainability of businesses. For this year, we are aiming to support 320 entrepreneurs.

Job Summary:

You will provide service in the day-to-day delivery of responsive, effective and efficient project activities in support of the Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) mission to serve the poor and vulnerable. You will provide consistent and high-quality service and contribute to the proper stewardship of project resources to help ensure operational effectiveness in support of high-quality programming.

In the same way, The Livelihood case worker, under the supervision of the Case Management Project Officer, will facilitate all the related activities for the Case management unit and supporting the other livelihood units.

Job Responsibilities:

· Interview and select potential entrepreneurs who are interested in starting up their own businesses.

· Support beneficiaries throughout the project life cycle starting from the technical support provided during the training, planning for their project, the startup phase and during implementation. This is conducted through different activities that includes but not limited to follow up calls, site visits, coaching…etc..

· Determine eligibility of beneficiaries to receive start-up grants through participating in committee meetings where he/she reviews and approves/rejects business plans.

· Maintains beneficiaries’ records by reviewing case notes; logging events and progress Identify and document successful beneficiaries’ stories.

· Inform beneficiaries of our accountability system where they can communicate any feedback they have of the service provided.

· Participate and conducts livelihood assessments that will be used for program design or for the evaluation of the project.

· Inform the targeted community about CRS livelihoods services through outreaches at community organizations or other centralized point within the community.

· Refer applicants to appropriate and specialized services, especially for applicants who are determined to be SGBV cases (sexual and gender-based violence).

· Supporting in orientations, coaching, and peer to peer support sessions, exchange of experiences, and practical exercises to develop the skills necessary for the work.

· Ad hoc assignments that contribute to the program improvement and progress.

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:

Education and Experience

· Bachelor degree is required in a related field.

· Two years’ experience working in an office environment in a clerical or administrative role. Experience with a local or international NGO a plus.

· Additional education may substitute for some experience.

· Experience with word processing, data entry into online databases and forms, and working with various office equipment.

· Experience in MS Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) and information management systems. Proficient in Word.

· Knowledge and best practices seeking and application, from within and outside Development Agencies.

Personal Skills

· Good time management skills with ability to work on multiple tasks

· Strong customer service orientation with good communication and interpersonal skills

· Proactive, resourceful, solutions oriented and results-oriented.

· Personal ability to deal, in a humble and dignified way, with a vulnerable segment of beneficiaries.

· Good interpersonal skills and ability to work smoothly in a multi-cultural environment while building good teamwork spirit.

· High tolerance rate for working under pressure and dealing with diversified cultures and tense situations.

Required/Desired Foreign Language: Excellent command in English and Arabic.

Travel Required: Job requires travel to Greater Cairo to assist partners and follow up projects (approximately 30%).
