The Organisation
Plan International and Strømme Foundation have formed a consortium to create a three-year project: FASST. The goal of the FASST (Les Filles Accèdent à une Scolarisation Sécurisée et à Temps) project is to address an urgent and growing need faced by children 6-16 years, especially girls, in the conflict-affected northern and eastern regions of Burkina Faso, enabling them to continue schooling at a time when the insurgency is closing in on their rights to a safe, gender responsive and protective education.
Plan International is the consortium lead for this project. Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And its girls who are most affected. Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.
We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.
We have been building powerful partnerships for children for more than 80 years and are now active in more than 70 countries.
The Opportunity
As the Chief of Party, you will contribute to the strategic objectives of this project through ensuring its effective, timely and coordinated implementation. Your primary responsibilities will include providing overall program leadership and management to ensure performance and adherence to donor regulations; ensuring synergies and an integrated vision among different stakeholders; and directly managing the human resources of a Project Team.
You will manage the relationships and key information flows between the key stakeholders. You will do this alongside serving as the primary liaison with the lead consortium member on administrative and technical matters. This will include working with programme staff and technical advisors to identify the technical support needs of the programme.
The Individual
We are looking to recruit a creative and innovative individual who has at least 10 years of demonstrable and progressive experience in managing government and bilateral donor-funded grants, ideally including Global Affairs Canada (GAC). You will have experience of working for an INGO in a senior position, with this ideally being in Burkina Faso or elsewhere in West Africa. It is essential that you have knowledge of the development context and challenges in West Africa, particularly in regard to education systems.
To be successful in this role, you will have proven leadership, inter-personal and cross-cultural skills and the ability to build and motivate multi-disciplinary teams. You will have a demonstrated ability to implement programmes with rigorous timelines and deliverables, whilst also having strong negotiating, facilitation and influencing skills.
Fluency in both English and French is essential.
This position is contingent on confirmation of donor funding.
