Chemonics seeks a chief of party for USAID’s anticipated $75 million Promoting Civic Engagement and Peace Project (PCEP) in South Sudan. This potential five-year project will promote stability, local solutions, and citizen participation to mitigate conflict, advance reconciliation efforts, increase access to information, and empower civil society. The goals of the program are to (1) identify critical conflict drivers at the local, regional, and national levels and provide targeted, strategic support to relevant stakeholders or initiatives working to address and resolve conflicts nonviolently; (2) bolster the ability of constituent-responsive local authorities, civil society, and others to strengthen and sustain localized or higher-level peace processes in an integrated fashion; and (3) empower civil society and others to more broadly and inclusively engage issues related to good governance, reform, accountability, dialogue, and peace at all levels. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide overall project leadership, management, and technical direction
  • Ensure all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate, ensuring progress towards targets and the timely completion of deliverables
  • Oversee work planning, performance management, and strategic communications
  • Serve as the project’s official liaison with USAID
  • Supervise the project’s technical and operations staff to ensure they manage project activities and operations successfully
  • Provide technical oversight and supervision of subcontractors and grantees as required
  • Ensure compliance with USAID regulations and Chemonics’ policies
  • Represent the project at periodic meetings with stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in management, international development, peace and conflict studies, or related field
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience in international development, with seven years of experience in complex, fast-paced, and challenging operating environments
  • Experience as chief of party managing complex activities and coordinating with multiple project stakeholders across a range of implementation areas
  • Expertise in conflict mitigation, governance, and access to justice required
  • Experience managing a large grants-under-contract mechanism preferred
  • Experience managing a program with peacebuilding and recovery components preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership in designing, managing, and implementing large USAID projects
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in written and oral English required
