HIJRA in partnership with UNICEF is implementing a project to strengthen child protection in Isingiro District. HIJRA is therefore expanding our program implementing team is now seeking a qualified person willing to offer Humanitarian services in the position of Child Protection Assistant to be based in Nakivale/Oruchinga – Isingiro District.

Job Summary:

Support activities aimed at ensuring that durable solutions are sought and provided to the largest possible number of persons of concern.

Reporting Relationships:

The post holder will be responsible to the Child Protection Officer.

Duties:

The Child Protection Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Undertake child protection case management for Unaccompanied, separated and children at risk including assessments, monitoring outstanding cases.
  2. Support child protection committees to identify and refer child protection cases and work with communities to strengthen community based child protection
  3. Support psychosocial activities for improved wellbeing of children and access to children’s right to play
  4. Conduct BIA/BID assessments for children at risk
  5. Conduct follow up visits of UASC and children at risk
  6. Identify vulnerable individuals in accordance with HIJRA criteria and inform the Child Protection Officer in order that s/he can organize case referral to other service providers within the Community Centre or partner NGOs and follow up accordingly.
  7. Ensure that all activities are accurately documented and filed in the database.
  8. Provide regular feedback to the Child Protection Officer on progress, lessons learned, achievements, gaps, issues and problems.
  9. Contribute to the preparation of weekly/monthly plans and reports on activities.
  10. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager

Competencies, Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other related field.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in the same field of development and humanitarian work and NGOs.

· Strong experience working with children

· Strong knowledge of Child Friendly interview techniques and communicating with children

· Strong organizational and supervisory skills with excellent reporting & writing skills.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

· An excellent command of verbal and written English.

· Good knowledge word and excel.
