Duty Station and Reporting: Mogadishu, Somalia; with travel to Puntland and Somaliland

Reporting/Supervision: Reports to the Country Manager

Period of Performance: 12 months

Communication and outreach Officer– CO Somalia

Forum SYD is seeking applications from qualified nationals for the position of Communications and Outreach Officer The department is responsible for advocacy and external communication. Communication and outreach officer monitor and analyze Country and global development issues and political decision processes.

The Communications and Outreach Officer (COO) will be responsible for implementing the Communications Strategy and learning for future programming in the Civil society program and in general for Forum SYD Country Office, which includes, developing publications, reports and communications materials as well as outreach materials for the program beneficiaries. Publications and reports include reports and contract deliverables, such as quarterly and annual reports as well as special reports, success stories and materials detailing program activities. The COO will work with global communication team, as needed, to prepare information materials for approved media campaigns or public education campaigns relating to project successes to beneficiaries and project partners. All Partnership reporting and communications products will be under the COO Officer’s supervision, including customizing templates and ensuring consistent branding for program materials

Areas of responsibility

· Coordinate and contribute to the development of Forum Syd´s strategic and operational media/advocacy work in close cooperation with Global communication team in Stockholm.

· Handle external communication in different media and channels including web page and social media communication.

· Establish and maintain relevant contacts with media/decision-makers and networks etc.

· Monitor global aid policy to Somalia and global development issues in media

· Formulate messages and produce materials on the web as well as for media/advocacy activities

· Identify and visualize results in close corporation with the Program officers at country offices

· Project leadership of the annual report

· Develop and insure implementation of Forum Syd’s graphic profile

· Other tasks related to the work in the Communication department and delegated by line manager

· Contribute to the organisational learning and development of Forum Syd in general, and of the country office in particular.

· Contribute to a constructive and good work environment in Forum Syd in general, and in the Country Offices in particular.

· Facilitate information preparation for visits of delegations to the Partnership program;

· Liaise with Program officers and partners to maximize coordination and increase the Partnership’s visibility, under the Country Manager’s direction;

· Ensure program results are appropriately communicated among the local communities to help spread positive news while maintaining program integrity and adhering to security guidelines;

· Monitor press coverage of the Program efforts and author reports and social media to CO web page as well as forum Syd intranet page about the program’s successes, as approved by forum syd

· Any other duties as required

Qualifications required

· Relevant academic degree or equivalent qualifications obtained in another way

· Minimum 3 years’ experience as communication officer in INGOs

· Expertise in communication

· Good knowledge about global development and Swedish aid policy

· Excellent stylistic ability

· Excellent knowledge in communication techniques, tools, methods, channels, etc.

· Good ability to combine strategy with current events and independently perform analyzes

· Excellent ability to express oneself orally and in writing to relevant target groups in English and Somali

· Advanced IT skills, including knowledge of publications software;

· Proven experience in using social media, video and photography

· Proven experience in relations with the press/mass media and community outreach

  • Experience working in M&E is added advantage
  • ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems quickly and effectively
