Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation (WEWE) is a not – for – profit, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that was founded in 2004 by Josephine Ogazi and Joseph Egwuonwu. WEWE started out as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) with the aim of providing scholarships and economic empowerment to orphans and widows in Okigwe, Imo State and has since expanded its aims and objectives.

WEWE is registered as a national NGO with CAC under incorporated trustees and its registration number is CAC/IT/NO33132.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Communication / Campaign Manager

  • Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) a women led, faith based non-governmental organization is soliciting for a short-term Communication/Campaign Manager to provide communication and media advocacy services to support activities to stem community spread of COVID-19 in for a ‘Urban WASH Civil Society Response on COVID19’ an intervention under USAID Effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene Services (E-WASH Program).

The period of performance:

  • Six (6) months

Objective
The objective of this program are as follows:

  • Strengthen Federal Government and partner states’ COVID-19 prevention campaigns and strategies through strategic communications and advocacy.
  • Deepen partnership with national and local media to increase access to quality information and leverage digital technologies to fight the pandemic.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • S/he will take the lead in developing and online communication campaign strategy using blog, tweeter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bill boards.
  • With guidance from the Executive Director, s/he will take the lead in organizing and conducting an advocacy-meeting with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the National Task Group on Sanitation (NTGS), Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), The National Orientation Agency of Nigeria (NOA) through virtual meetings
  • S/he will develop and disseminate fit-for-purpose information on hygiene practices, risk communications and de-stigmatization in local languages on radio jingles, fact sheet, and educative dramas
  • S/he will develop key messages to influence behavior change towards de-stigmatization of COVID19 Survivors through Radio jingles/ TV advertorials, social media banners and newspaper cartoons and editorials on Email, Whatsapp, SMS and also Kick start a bi-weekly radio show on risk communications and hygiene promotion in project states.
  • S/he will facilitate or support production of 30-secs TV advertorial, cartoons and short educative illustration on risk communications and hygiene promotion on National TV and Coordinate TV airtime purchase and programme rounds on campaign messages.
  • S/he will produce visual communications and promotional materials in clear and simple languages.
  • S/he will produce radio jingle and TV promotion/social media promotional materials to promote key messages on reducing fake news on Africa Magic (Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa), Radio, TV, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bill boards.
  • S/he will supervise a Media Advocacy firm to be that will engaged to carry out communication and media advocacy tasks.

The reporting line:

  • The Communication Campaign / Manager will report to the Executive Director.

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications or a relevant field
  • Must be a postgraduate degree preferably a Masters in Mass Communication or a related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience in practical communication and media advocacy
  • Experience working on USAID funded or International Donor funded project focused on communication is an added advantage.

Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) is a local NGO with a mission to “harness the potentials of widows, orphans, and vulnerable segment to become productive entities in the society through advocacy, capacity building, economic empowerment and human rights program”. WEWE’s main goal is to advocate for, and promote the rights of widows, vulnerable women and orphans in Nigeria and Africa at large. Built on the core values of Integrity, Accountability, Teamwork and Excellence, WEWE has over 7 years’ experience in managing USAID funded Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) projects. Some past projects achievements include:
  • Provision of micro-enterprise and homestead farming to 315 OVC caregivers.
  • Establishment of Cassava processing Enterprise for 239 caregivers.
  • Sponsorship of 12 University Students and revolving grants to 39 widows.
  • Community mobilization of 20 communities in Imo/Abia.
  • Provision and prevention from Mother To Children Transmission (PMTCT) education to 750 caregivers.
As at June 2015, WEWE has reached a total of 15,006 vulnerable children and 4854 VC caregivers within 7 years with the following services:
  • Child protection,
  • shelter and care,
  • nutritional and food security,
  • household economic strengthening,
  • education and training,
  • health
  • Psychosocial support
  • Other program area HIV, PMTCT & Malaria.
Registered with CAC under incorporated trustees CAC/IT/NO/33132 in 2009, Widows and Orphans Empowerment organization (WEWE) initially started as a community based organization (CBO) in 2004 with a one man staff working on orphans scholarship programme in Okigwe Imo State.Today, WEWE has over 40 full time staff and 20 volunteers based in Abuja, Anambra, Imo and Abia with a focus of reaching a total of 52,602 children and 17,554 caregivers by September 2016.
