Child Safeguarding:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

As part of these responsibilities the post holder will support child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Visual and Digital Media Officer is responsible for managing Save the Children social media accounts and producing visual materials (photos & videos). In addition, s/he will Identify and maximise opportunities to raise the visibility and profile of Save the Children’s programs both in country and internationally.

The position is Cairo based, and includes regular travel to Save the Children Egypt’s program locations across Egypt, including Greater Cairo, Upper Egypt and the Delta

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Communications and Media Manager

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • In collaboration with the Communications and Media Manager, and programs team:

Communications

  • Propose visibility materials and ensure that the materials follow SCI’s brand guidelines, sign-off procedures and checklists for publications.
  • Feed into regular reporting requirements for the Egypt emergency response, such as situation reports.
  • Undertake photography commissions to a high standard, to accompany compelling case studies.
  • Develop and produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communication materials to profile Save the Children’s program both internally and externally (case stories, articles, newsletters, press release, factsheets other communications materials)

Media

  • Responsible for highlighting our messages in the media profile for Save the Children in Egypt.
  • Developing media relations and upgrading Save the Children’s Media List.
  • Develop/gather and post content to the organization’s social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter through generating content, with a view towards increasing and deepening the organization’s social media presence.
  • Generate high quality media coverage of Save the Children’s programme work. This includes developing press releases, questions and answers, and organising press conferences, media briefings, and assist in coordinating visits of journalists and celebrities to programme locations (including logistical arrangements)
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with different media outlets
  • Write, edit, and manage internal approvals of media content, including press releases and media statements
  • Expand and maintain an active and email list of media contacts, and activate the mailing lists for key media activities.
  • Regularly visit country programmes to ensure a direct link between programme work and media coverage.
  • Monitor Save the Children profile in the local media.

Other:

  • Ensure protection of the Save the Children’s brand and ensure that SCI procedures, protocols and policies are followed, including guidelines for interviewing children and documenting permission from beneficiaries for use of their images and words
  • Develop media and visibility plans for programmes and for the Country Office
  • Ensure program compliance with donor visibility and communications requirements
  • Develop and maintain strong internal relationships with RO Program Managers, Project teams, Program Quality and Development staff, and Finance and Support Services teams to advance Communications and Media team priorities
  • Compiling a concise monthly activity report, and quarterly outcome report
  • Support in assessing risk related to more public presence and communicating in the current issues.
  • Overseeing communications focal points and gathering material and information from them.
  • Research, plan and implement a range of high profile events.
  • Other duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3-6 experience working within the field of Media and Communications
  • Bachelor degree; preferably in Media Studies, Journalism, Mass Communication, Marketing or equivalent experience
  • Fluency in both Arabic and English – written and verbal
  • Ability to produce high quality content for stories, publications, and social media.
  • Experience with social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google AdWords etc.)
  • Basic experience in using design software such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
  • Basic skills in photography and videography.
  • Excellent relationship building skills in order to work with different groups and stakeholders;
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to work independently, manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload and solve problems quickly, with limited support at times;
  • The capacity and willingness to be flexible and accommodating in challenging working circumstances.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
