In Uganda, we implement programmes in five thematic programme areas of Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Education, Child Poverty, Health and Nutrition in Development and Emergency contexts. Save the Children delivers programs in over 36 districts in the North, Rwenzori, North-Eastern, West Nile and Central regions of Uganda. We save children’s lives. We fight for their rights. We help them fulfil their potential.

Role Purpose

The West Nile Regional has a portfolio of construction projects support of Education ECCD /ALP programmes in the emergence sector. The main purpose of the role is to provide technical input and construction supervision over the quality of the construction projects, particularly in light of the remedial action and poor construction quality of phase 1.Provide also management skills and capacity building support to the construction teams on the ground

Maintain a database of all projects, actions required and the progress by contractor, set up reporting mechanism to monitor construction works under ECHO 4 project, to include checklists and photographic reports and In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualification and Experience;

Essential

· Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture or Advanced Diploma in construction, Civil engineering or any equivalent accrued working experience in a related position;

· At least one year relevant experience implementing, supervising, monitoring and evaluating construction projects with an NGO, preferably in an emergency setting;

· Good understanding of child rights issues and child rights instruments

Desirable

· Specific familiarity with child rights issues in the NGO world or work.

· Fluency in both spoken and written English.

· Excellent team builder.

· Good report writer.

· Excellent planner

· Must have skills in riding a motorbike and possess a valid riding ridding permit

1977 A number of Save the Children organisations formed an alliance to coordinate campaigning work to improve outcomes for the world’s children, sowing the seeds for Save the Children as a single global movement for children

1989 The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

194 countries have signed up to this legally binding convention

2004–2009 Save the Children’s largest humanitarian operation, in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami. Our tsunami response programme received funding of US$272 million, largely through generous donations

2009 Save the Children launched EVERY ONE, our largest ever global campaign, to prevent millions of mothers and young children from dying

2012 Our work once again touched the lives of over 125 million children worldwide and directly reached 45 million children.
