Core Functions / Responsibilities: 

Community engagement (70%)

  1. Seek out and work with local residents and IDPs  to develop proactive community groups working to address local issues and influence decision-making in their community
  2. Run community engagement events and facilitate discussions to build self-sustaining community groups
  3. Develop the volunteer trainer role with the SMS Service to provide training for community reporters.
  4. Work with local elected members, external partners, internal partners across the County and communities to develop solutions to local issues
  5. Work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the Localism agenda and facilitate change.

Project planning (20%)

  1. Support the planning, delivery and evaluation of the site management support – SMS engagement products sharing, disseminating and implementing best practice.
  2. Ensure that learning from the SMS and other partners engagement  throughout the SMS team, the Community Engagement team and the  actors for the benefit of the organization and communities across including:
  • Organising events to share good practice
  • Working with partners to share learning and achieve joint aims
  • Building strong working relationships with colleagues and partners to deliver the Localism agenda

Communications (10%)

  1. Work with the information management officer to deliver the communications plan, publicize events and facilitate awareness campaigns including, but not exclusively, for site management support.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

 

  1. Advanced university degree or equivalent of social science experience would be an advantage.
  2. 2 years’ experience working with an INGO in a formal or informal camp setting

 

Experience

  • Five or seven years of relevant professional work experience is required for Masters and University degree holders respectively.
  • Experience working with communities
  • Experience of project management, ideally within a community engagement role.
  • Knowledge of working in a multi-stakeholder or different clusters environment.
  • Extensive experience of CCCM/SMS/ or protection.
  • Experience of organizing community engagement events
  • Knowledge of the region is an advantage.
