The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a consultancy position of Digital Solutions Project and Delivery Manager based at our country office in Nairobi, Kenya. Duration of assignment 11 months.

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Digital Solutions Delivery and the direct supervision of the Field Deployment Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Deployment project plans consistent with the policies and standards of the Technology Division (TEC):
  • Adhere to processes, procedures and templates for the Business Engagement, Business Analysis and IT Project Management functions to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • User research, analysis, and design artefacts: application screen mock-ups and screen flows; translate screen design and workflows into Wireframes and/or prototypes:
  • Translate business to technical know-how and visual models defining technical solution in collaboration with technical teams via agile methodology.
  • Leverage the field data coordinators to align data mapping outcomes to solution requirements.
  • Project documentation including business requirements and functional specifications traceable to problem statement and data mapping:
  • Capture, analyze, validate and document (i.e. through diagrams, flowcharts, data models, user experience designs, storyboards) functional requirements, processes and business rules for digital solutions and services, following WFP policies, standards and strategies.
  • Solution implementations in countries as per deployment roadmap:
  • Reference and update the digital solutions list of services to ensure effective knowledge management of all potential offerings for a given functional need.
  • Review options to extend the digital core ecosystem as per functional requirements in collaboration with other IT units.
  • Develop baseline understanding of the countries operational needs around school meals or smallholder farmers or service provision and other portfolios as assigned:
  • Participate in the early stages of research, ideation and storytelling in collaboration with teams to identify, design and deploy digital solutions that meet Country Office’s local/functional needs, as you extend WFP’s digital core to the field.
  • Conduct surveys on business satisfaction with digital solutions and services used by the countries, particularly in relation to WFP’s digital smallholder platform.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Education:

  • University degree in Computer Science, engineering or other relevant field

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of work experience;
  • Participation in the analysis and re-design of business processes or applications;
  • Coordination and management of small or medium projects at HQ and field offices;
  • Assistance in change management procedures, activities and processes at HQ or field offices;
  • Experience implementing IT systems or data solutions in support of smallholder farmers, school meals, service provision, retail, or beneficiaries and/or partners and governments in general, preferably in the humanitarian sector;
  • Proven record of working with clients to lead the delivery of digital solutions from idea through to scale, preferably in the humanitarian sector.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Experience and certifications in project management and/or business analysis would be a significant advantage, including in Agile/Scrum;
  • IT background or solid knowledge of IT desirable;
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in digital transformation, using data driven insights and user experience to solve problems in unconventional ways;
  • Good knowledge of WFP’s IT landscape and its related processes/procedures would be an advantage;
  • Analytical skills and ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses to support projects.

Competencies:

  • Ability to influence cross-functionally to manage projects within a matrix environment;
  • Initiative and drive to meet deliverables on time and within budget;
  • Very good communication skills both written and oral;
  • Organized and attention to detail to ensure projects run efficiently.

Language:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.

The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

WFP was first established in 1961[4] after the 1960 Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Conference, when George McGovern, director of the US Food for Peace Programmes, proposed establishing a multilateral food aid programme. The WFP was formally established in 1963 by the FAO and the United Nations General Assembly on a three-year experimental basis. In 1965, the programme was extended to a continuing basis.

Organization

The WFP is governed by an Executive Board which consists of representatives from 36 member states. Ertharin Cousin is the current Executive Director, appointed jointly by the UN Secretary General and the Director-General of the FAO for a five-year term. She heads the Secretariat of the WFP. The European Union is a permanent observer in the WFP and, as a major donor, participates in the work of its Executive Board.

Its vision is a "world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life."

The WFP has a staff of about 11,500 people, the majority of whom work in remote areas.
